Is it true that at one point over the last decade, Tracy McGrady was the best player in the league? After leaving the shadow of his cousin Vince Carter by signing with the Orlando Magic (and never getting the opportunity to wreak consistent havoc with Grant Hill), T-Mac put up some insane all-around numbers that put him atop the league – perhaps above fellow SG extraordinaire Kobe Bryant. Orlando never reached much success as a team (how one drops 50 and still loses is a befuddlement that Tracy addressed in one of his adidas T-Mac advertisements), but as an individual, T-Mac’s run in Orlando and Houston has to be given its due props. His adidas signature line (particularly the adidas T-Mac 1)has been getting some exposure as of late, and that 2002 All-Star Sample we showed you a few days ago looks like its headed for a release, so peep the images below and we’ll let you know when these come to the States. The details surrounding the eventual retro release of the adidas T-Mac 1 are still fairly hazy, with no real word from the Three Stripes regarding which colorways will make their way to retail and when. With that being said we’ve got our eyes on a spicy sample that just may arrive in the group, a retro version of the adidas T-Mac 1 Tracy rocked at the NBA All-Star Game in Philly a decade back (check the liberty bell embroidery). Click through with us to take a look at the adidas T-Mac 1 ‘All-Star’ sample and stick with Sneaker News for word on whether or not these are indeed coming back around and let us know if you’d grab a pair if that were the case. Nike Sportswear will remind us of Vince Carter’s best days when the Shox BB4 returns in colorways including the Fred Weis-posterizing ‘USAB’ edition; what about the cousin with whom VC once appeared poised to rule the NBA alongside? Fellow former Toronto standout Tracy McGrady had to escape from Vinsanity’s shadow (and the impact of his salary on the Raptors’ cap) and ended up as the main star in Orlando for a stretch in the early ’00s when Grant Hill’s role on the team became a mere formality. McGrady became an All-Star for the first time in his debut season with the Magic, and the adidas T-Mac commemorates that season that immediately preceded back-to-back scoring titles. It looks like we’ll get an O-Town colorup as well as one that alludes to T-Mac’s time in Houston; let us know which looks best when you’re checking out more shots on the other side. Photos: Hupu
