The Air Jordan 1 is taking things pretty far back for 2013, with styles for that silhouette going all out with original colorways and even some rare ‘Nike Air’ branding. Of course, the Air Jordan 1 Phat will be doing at least one historical nod as well in the form of this white and university blue colorway. The university in question would be University of North Carolina, MJ’s alma mater where he showed such promise before his NBA hooping legacy was born. Obviously the Air Jordan 1 came after Michael Jordan’s college days out at UNC Chapel Hill (check out this vintage Converse Pro leather for a look at the sneaker he was rocking back then). But that doesn’t mean the Air Jordan lineup doesn’t have a right to reference those days, plenty of blue and white colorways through the years doing just that. The tail-end of the calendar year is when basketball fans have plenty to be excited about, as both the pro-level and collegiate ranks gear up for a new season of battle. With Michael calling UNC his alma mater, there’s no question that the Tar Heels will be perennial players in all of Jordan Brand’s seasonal output. So when we learned of an Air Jordan 1 Phat ‘College’ Pack of sorts, it was no surprise that University Blue/White was a certain inclusion. Here’s a look at the Air Jordan 1 Phat ‘UNC’ , set for a release in Spring 2013 alongside the other college-colored AJ1s; taken straight from the OG Air Jordan 1 colored in the same manner, the slightly shorter Phat model (two eyelets vs. three in a Phat vs. High comparison) features the same two-toned team-based color-blocking that made the Dunks and AJ1s such a mega hit for over two decades. Spring 2013 is when these will hit stores, so stay tuned for solid release information here on Sneaker News.
