AIR JORDAN 1 PHAT The Air Jordan 1 Phat is a slightly retooled version of the classic Air Jordan 1 silhouette. The primary difference in the design is the extra padding included on the inside of the sneaker. The Air Jordan 1 Phat has been the go-to model for Retro selections of the standard Air Jordan 1 silhouette in recent years.

This past weekend’s Air Jordan X Retro ‘Chicago’ release was accompanied by a similarly blocked GS pair that opted for Violet Pop and Cyber accents instead of the traditional red-on-black look. Pictured above is another model with those same accent hits, but one with no counterpart for male sneakerheads as graphical design of this Air Jordan 1 Phat GS sees its only replication on an earlier pair that was arguably even more feminine in black and pink. This Lakers-leaning colorup is an orange lace away from some Dia de los Muertos appeal, but you won’t have to wait until October for this high energy release. The Air Jordan 1 is about to be given a skateboarding makeover courtesy of Nike SB, but don’t forget that Jordan Brand took notice of the virtues of overstuffed tongues long ago. The Air Jordan 1 Phat is back in a new colorway reminiscent of the first of two Air Jordan-inspired Dunk Low SB releases last year, a black, white and Action Green design that’s a tweak in colorblocking away from looking like a higher take on the ‘Neon J-Pack’ look. But just as it’d be redundant to call an AJ1 ‘J-Pack’, this release benefits from the break from the OG blocking pattern, and offers quite a bit of depth in its tonal black, Elephant-equipped uppers. There’s been quite a bit of activity on the Air Jordan 1 Phat front in recent weeks, including several new styles slated for 2012 and now this new edition that reprises a theme applied to one of 2011′s last. This new AJ1 Phat GS isn’t one of those drops you can say is more ‘grade school’ than ‘girls’ thanks to a super-feminine take on a LA Lakers-leaning palette, its detailing borrowed from a recent black/pink pair right down to the ‘For the Love of the Game’ heart-sketball emblem on the lateral heel. The list of spring 2012 Air Jordan 1 Phat colorways continues to grow, and though we’re used to seeing a single month’s releases feature a single theme or blocking pattern, it’s starting to look like all the Q1 drops eminate from a similar source. This new Varsity Red, Cool Grey and white edition shares its colorblocking with the black and Action Green ‘Altitude’-esque pair slated for February, and is also similar to the UNC-style edition set to release around the same time thanks to a leather upper adding layered mesh to its side panels and ankle collars. It’s a look we saw executed quite well on the Obsidian and Cool Grey joints that just hit retail, so now which of these four most deserves your attention even as the onslaught of Air Jordan Retros continues with no rest in sight? February 2012 should be firmly circled on your calendar, because that’s when the Air Jordan IV ‘White/Cement’ will officially hit stores. In addition to the White/Cements as well as the ‘Old Royal’ Air Jordan X (and likely a Black History Month edition of the Air Jordan IV), we’ve got plenty of other Jordan Brand releases to look forward to, like these new high-energy colorways of the Air Jordan 1 Phat. The first Black/Action Green colorway has that ‘Altitude XIII‘ jive going on, while the Cool Grey/University Blue plays the role of UNC Tar Heel representative. Is it baseball season already? This Yankees-inspired release of the Air Jordan 1 Phat, destined for a January 2012 release, is a nice reminder of fresh cut grass and tossing the ball around in the open field. And with the NBA lockout being as persistent as ever, we can’t wait for another professional sport to infiltrate our minds. C’mon, we need sports to stress about! But look beyond the colorway, and you’ll see that this Air Jordan 1 Phat has some nice materials, like a smooth leather upper (with a sick molded Jordan Wings logo on the ankle), a perforated base layer, and elephant print on the swoosh. These are a must-have for the overlapping group of Yankee and Jordan fans, so checkout the angles below and let us know what you think.

The days of strictly ‘pink-n-shrinking’ are long gone now that pretty much every sneaker brand out there caters to its female clientele with wider varieties, but that doesn’t mean one of those choices cannot indeed be a shoe featuring the vibrant color. Take for instance this Air Jordan 1 Phat GS that keeps its Desert Pink strictly on the outsole and a hint of tongue embroidery. These manage a supremely feminine feel despite being dipped in black from heel to toe thanks to a variety of textures including sparkly Safari print and a quilted underlay. Toss in some ribbon laces and diamonds may have to find a new best friend when young ladies get a hold of these at Jordan Brand retailers like Millennium Shoes.

Can a Nike SB Dunk really be the same without its trademark fat tongue? Sneakerheads answered with a resounding ‘No!’, and just like the main character from Family Guy, it was fan feedback that got the fat back. Now, a thickly padded tongue and ankle collar isn’t as strongly associated with the above pictured model, but it is explicitly referenced in the shoe’s model name, so what happens when the Air Jordan 1 Phat is no longer quite so thick? We’ll get to find out when this newly heightened, partially deconstructed AJ1 Phat hits retailers next summer, the first three colorways a nice spread of exactly what you’ll want as the warm weather cycles back around.
