Browsing the "Air Jordan 1 ‘Royal’" Tag

A second original Air Jordan 1 colorway is ready to hit stores – only this time it’s done right. The Black/Varsity Royal colorway does indeed carry the heralded ‘Nike Air’ in a interesting year of brand follies, but unlike the 2001 Retro release, these aren’t individually numbered via a label on the back of the tongue. Dropping right smack in the middle of one of the biggest release weekends of the year, does the Air Jordan 1 ‘Royal’ have the strength to elbow its way to the top? Cop them tomorrow at select Jordan Brand retailers (Excluding Nikestore) and see what’s available now from neo122401 on eBay.

Yes the Air Jordan 1 ‘Royal’ is coming back this month, and yes it will have the ‘Nike Air’ on the tongue tag. What it won’t have is the numbered treatment on the inside of that tag, a little detail that spoke to the exact number of pairs that were up for grabs at retail. This quirky sales sample comes with a different detail in that spot, as the sneakers are marked as “00000 of 00000″. Hit the jump with us for a better look at this rare sample version of the Air Jordan 1 ‘Royal’ and then get a look at the price tag on the pair from thecoolshoeshine on eBay.

What’s so significant about the Air Jordan 1 ‘Royal’? It’s one of the earliest Air Jordan releases that were individually numbered. A limited run of the Royal 1s released, but nobody even knows how limited. Why is that? Some of the pairs were numbered out of 31,213, while others were out of 11,928. Sales samples were numbered 00000 out of 00000. Strange at the very least, but the Royal 1s from 2001 are still one of the most coveted Jays of the decade, although next Saturday’s release will definitely close the book on the hunt for some collectors. If you’re looking to cop in advance of the 2/16 release date and avoid the crowds for All-Star Weekend, cop now from kicksclusive on eBay.

With all the hub-bub surrounding ‘Nike Air’ on today’s release of the Air Jordan III Retro ’88, why isn’t the same amount of controversy circling the Air Jordan 1 ‘Royal’? Several Air Jordan 1 releases will in fact feature ‘Nike Air’ on the tongue label and on the outsole of the shoes, just like they did when the Royal 1s dropped back in 2001. Peep the official images below and be sure to mark your calendars (and allocate $140 in your savings) for February 16th.

Which retro will be next to dominate the headlines once the Air Jordan III ’88 is finally out there in the wild? If we had to wager a guess we’d say this would be it: the Air Jordan 1 ‘Royal’ that will also be coming with the ‘Nike Air’ detailing attached. The model is actually the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG under official terms, the ‘OG’ part of the title being the one that designates that Nike Air addition. Continue reading for the latest set of angles on this exciting sneaker and keep in mind that the current release date we’ve got for the Air Jordan 1 ‘Royal’ is February 16th, 2013.

The OG lean given to the upcoming Air Jordan 1 ‘Royal’ retro is one that will apparently extend to the accompanying socks as well. Pictured here is a pair of ‘sublimated booties’ matching the original black and royal colorway of the Air Jordan 1 that will be back on sneaker shelves next month. And you’ll notice that there’s no Jumpman on the back (Obviously there’s no tongue on these though so you don’t get your ‘Nike Air’). Continue reading for a full look at the accessory and pick up yours right now from Nikestore.
