Our recent Jordan Brand preview gave you a pretty extensive look at the Air Jordan 1 heat in the works but let’s keep in mind that at least one key pair was missing from that grouping. That would be the Air Jordan 1 in black and varsity royal, another pair set to hit retail shelves in 2013 with the all important ‘Nike Air’ hit on the tongue. Just when will it shelves? The release date is set at February 16th, making them the perfect post-Valentines Day gift for your sneakerhead sweetheart. If you caught a glimpse of our coverage of the ShoeZeum in Las Vegas, you would’ve noticed Air Jordan 1 insanity displayed all around the space. 5 pairs of ’85 originals in one display, a game-worn autographed pair in another, the uber-rare UNC colorway in another – it was just a non-stop barrage of unbridled Air Jordan 1 dominance. Although we may have been a bit desensitized by the model considering Jordan Brand releases an AJ1 every month, this 2013 release will give the OG another jolt – just like 2011′s Banned 1s did. No matter what retros arrive in 2013 it’s going to be rather hard to top this, the return of Nike Air on an Air Jordan silhouette. Yes that’s correct, the Air Jordan 1 pictured is among those set to release early next year, one of the non-Bulls looks in the huge catalog of Air Jordan 1′s that has best stood the test of time. The whole “bring Nike Air back” argument is one that has seemed relatively futile for as long as it has floated around message boards and social circles in the post-millennium era of Air Jordan retros. Has all of that racket finally amounted to something though? It kinda looks like it, as the much anticipated Air Jordan 1 in the OG black and royal that is on tap for 2013 will indeed be Jumpman free (save for the insole) as shown in the first photos popping up here.
