AIR JORDAN 1 The Air Jordan 1 was the first ever Air Jordan sneaker and debuted in 1985. It was banned by the NBA for breaking league uniform regulations. The NBA fined Michael Jordan for every game he wore them, but Nike paid all the penalty fees. The Air Jordan 1 is the most Retro'ed Air Jordan in history. Would you want to see zebra on an Air Jordan retro? The most notable and perhaps only time that happened was a custom job that showed up at last year’s Sneaker Free Market event. The Air Jordan 1 we’re examining here was apparently intended for mass production, but for whatever reason, the release was nixed and only this sample pair remains. They were cast in one of the highest contrast colorways possible, blending purple, black and orange and even going two-tone on the laces. The signature element on this Jordan 1 Mid was the tonal stripes on the entire leather upper; not quite zebra, but every bit as bold and eye-catching. Let us know if you would have rocked these, and consider adding this rare Jordan 1 to your sample with a bid from jesusisbackintown on eBay.

Last year was very much the year of red, white, and blue Air Jordan retros thanks to the Olympics, but it looks like 2013 just might have a few pairs in that category as well. Shown here is an upcoming Air Jordan 1 Phat pair that has a vague USA look to it, one that also opts for some elephant print touches towards the back end. In fact, that combo of red, white, and blue plus elephant has us thinking “True Blue” a la the Air Jordan III. Can the Air Jordan 1 Phat still stir up some excitement in the midst of all these “Nike Air” equipped joints running around? Let us know after you check out the full photos and stay tuned for more in this Air Jordan 1 style.

How often do you a deadstock pair of the Air Jordan 1 in the original White/Red/Black colorway with the original box and hangtag? It’s definitely a rare occurrence, even with so many more opportunistic sellers looking to cash in on the vintage sneaker craze, but these are in such great shape (no visible cracking on the leather) that you might even be able to lace them up. What’s more is that the original box has the original sticker price labeled on the shoe ($65) with a discount sticker reading $19.99! Definitely an awesome find so check out this pristine pair of AJ1s below and see the full listing from jjchick on eBay.

Over the years we’ve seen some amazing (and questionable) colorways of Air Jordans and Air Jordan Retros surface on the web. In fact, there might be as many unreleased mock-ups as there are produced versions, but who knows what’s really stowed in the deep dark vaults inside the Jordan Brand headquarters and overseas factories? We’ve compiled a fairly thorough gallery of some notable Air Jordan sample colorways that have never seen the light of day at retail; some of these already have noted legends behind them, like the Air Jordan VI “Infrared” Retro with the flipped midsole and the Air Jordan V “Gold” that may or may not have been made for an employee, but some of the stuff we’ve come across cause us to question why the shoes were never released, or why they were created in the first place! Of course, this gallery isn’t a complete list of every unreleased sample, but take a moment to skim through the gallery below and let us know which unreleased Air Jordan sample catches your eyes the most.

It looks like the Air Jordan 1 “Black Toe” retro will arrive on one of the busier days of the year in terms of sneaker releases. That would be May 25th, a day that will see restocks of the Air Jordan III ’88 and the Air Jordan IV “Thunder”, along with the retail debut of two separate LeBron styles and a brand new Kobe. Could the hectic day possibly spread the traffic out a bit, making certain sneakers easier to pick up? Or will the Air Jordan 1 “Black Toe” be the most-sought after item for the day? Give us your thoughts after peeping the sneaker, in one shot alongside its AJKO parallel, right after the jump.

It would be difficult to jot down all the Air Jordan 1 samples and colorways that existed back then, because who knows how many different styles of tooling Nike used before it released out into the public? This Air Jordan 1 you see here might look like the general Red/White/Black colorway, but these were apparently a PE for Michael Jordan himself and features a lot of subtle differences from the released version. For one, these Air Jordan 1s uses a Nike Dunk outsole, but other nuances that you may not notice is the use of Air Jordan Wings logos on both the medial and lateral sides of the ankle and a slightly shorter height than the Air Jordan 1. On top of that, this PE is autographed by MJ himself. Check out this rare piece of Air Jordan memorabilia below!

Earlier this year Jordan Brand unveiled the Air Jordan 1 Retro ’93 – a hybrid of sorts combining the AJ1 framework with AJ8 trimmings. This “Wolf Grey” colorway certainly is a departure from the OG renditions like the “Bugs” that recently dropped and the “Playoffs” that are slated to hit stores in June, but these are at some degree tied to the Air Jordan VIII “Suns” that is hitting stores on the 18th of this month. If you’re feeling these remixed Air Jordan 1s, see them below and cop tomorrow at Jordan Brand retailers or right now from shoejocky on eBay.

Does the name Josh Wisdumb sound familiar to you? The artist has had his hands in the sneaker game for some time now, and was officially recognized by the New Balance folks back in 2005 when they gave him his own 574 design. His name has again registered on the sneaker news-wire with this, a custom made Air Jordan 1. The pair reprises those busy lines that were draped over the aforementioned New Balance 574, all while maintaining a pretty straightforward Jordan Brand palette between the red, white, and black sections. See more on the Air Jordan 1 “AIRWISDUMB” customs below and then grab them from jwisdumb2012 on eBay.
