It seems like the various “Bugs” flavored Air Jordan releases around the corner might have been better served as Easter releases, no? You’ll have to wait till after that holiday to get your hands on these bunnies though, as the Air Jordan 1 Retro ’93 sporting that colorway will release on April 6th. Stay with us after the jump to get the latest photo set on this hybrid pair and let us know how you like them compared to the Air Jordan 1 ’97 with its Air Jordan XIII style. And remember that if you’re looking for a pair, fine retailers like Social Status have got you covered.

Every team in the 90′s wanted to get at the neck of the Chicago Bulls, but for most of the decade (or whenever Jordan was actually in uniform), the Bulls were untouchable. The 80′s were a different story, because the Bulls – although perennial Playoff contenders – could never get through the Pistons in the East, and their twice-a-year showdowns against the Lakers definitely made for good television. It all worked out in 1991 when the Bulls beat the Pistons and the Lakers en route to Chicago’s first-ever NBA title in rather convincing fashion, and this upcoming set of Air Jordan 1 Mids sorta ties in to those two rivalries (thus the Air Jordan 1 Mid “Rivalry Pack” designation). These are hitting domestic retailers and international ones like Nike Harajuku so check out the images below and let us know if you can recall any memories from the Bulls/Pistons or Bulls/Lakers rivalries.

A mid-December post on a funky-lookin’ pair of Air Jordan 1 Lows revealed a never-before-seen midfoot strap held down by a velcro piece. Bear with us here – are these meant for…skating? Avid skaters from the decade of the Air Jordan 1 will note that Air Jordan 1s and Dunks were popular options, and the ankle-strap certainly speaks to the skate crowd as much as it does the basketball crowd. The Air Jordan 1 Strap Low is beginning to pop up for sale at select Jordan Brand retailers, so keep your eyes peeled if these interesting Air Jordan 1 alterations pique your interest – or purchase now from mikkol88 on eBay.

The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Celtics” (Release date April 6th) is one of a ton of styles coming out in 2013 with the ‘Nike Air’ treatment in place. It’s also one of a couple of Air Jordan 1 models we’ve seen so far to get outfitted with the look of a specific NBA squad, the “Bulls” and “Knicks” doing the same earlier in the year. Check out the clover, metallic gold, white, and black combination that is the Air Jordan 1 “Celtics” (Complete with an overlay that appears to sport a parquet floor look) and pick up yours a little bit ahead of schedule from agauche1 on eBay.

We try and keep you up on what rappers and other celebs are wearing these days in terms of sneakers, but let’s keep in mind that rappers have had the trainer game on lock long before the current bubble of “sneakerhead” interest. Evidence comes here in the form of a handful of classic sneaker-featured album covers of yesteryear. Some that come to mind are Biz Markie in his Nike Air Safari, LL Cool J in some Air Jordan 1s, Three Times Dope with a mean set of Air Jordan IIIs, and the endless Run DMC x adidas moments. Click through with us for a walk down memory lane and then check out the greater group of classic rap album cover sneaker sightings on FNG and Classic Kicks.

This is truly the golden era of sneaker releases, with footwear brands focusing on imagination and storytelling on top of design to accentuate their releases. There are, of course, a number of dream situations that we’d all love to see, and some of them have come true; the Air Jordan III Retro ’88 and the Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ are two great examples because they broadened the possibilities for both models, giving us even more reason expect stretched limits in terms of creativity. With that said, we’re starting a new “What Do You Think?” feature on Sneaker News in which we ask you, our readers, for your thoughts on some interesting sneaker concepts that not only make sense, but have potential of releasing in the future.
With the Retro category being the dominant force in the sneaker game, footwear brands have done quite well when resourcefully reintroducing its most iconic and revolutionary designs. Nike’s recent ‘OG’ releases of their original Air Max models is, ironically, a fresh way to put the shoes back on the shelves, with the pre-yellowed midsoles and other aged qualities being the focus on these bringbacks. Our question to you is: What do you think of an Air Jordan Retro VNTG release? We know Jordan Brand jumped the hurdle in regards to bringing back ‘Nike Air’, but an Air Jordan III with pre-yellowed midsoles and back-tabs or a pair of Air Jordan Vs with the right tint on the once-icy outsole and netting might turn a few heads, and who knows how much longer Jordan Brand can re-release the same Retros again and again? Pretty much every original Air Jordan from 1 through VII could potentially be redone in this special VNTG way so check out the gallery of some OG Air Jordans that could potentially return in VNTG style and let’s get the discussion going in this installment of WDYT?.
