Jordan Brand pulled out all the stops when it invited a select group of sneaker-media members to a special launch event that featured an info session with designers Tinker Hatfield and Tom Luedecke as well as a detailed examination of the shoes and its upcoming releases. Following that event was the release of the ‘Wolf Grey’ and ‘UNC’ colorways of the Air Jordan 2012 Deluxe, but tomorrow marks the first major wide release of the shoe in the inline colorways of White/Black. Unlike the Deluxe, the A, Q, and E versions come with one bootie (you get to choose between black (low only), royal, and red. Also releasing tomorrow is the ‘Year Of The Dragon’ Deluxe, which comes with the entire three-tiered set. Check with your local Jordan Brand retailer tomorrow to partake in the twenty-seventh Air Jordan of the legacy, and see what’s available now on eBay.

Jordan Brand took their sweet time with ‘Year of the Rabbit’ releases in 2011, extending the Chinese New Year theme far beyond the February holiday and well into the fall months. This time around we’ve seen no indication that suggests a similar follow-up, but the Air Jordan 2012 Deluxe ’Year of the Dragon’ is indeed moving on its own schedule: a Thursday, February 23rd release that comes a full month after the earliest Lunar New Year in four decades. The water dragon-inspired look will arrive at select JB retailers like Millennium Sports in just a couple of days, but with the NBA All-Star and accompanying ‘Galaxy’ collection about to also hit store shelves, where’s your focus for this biggest of NBA weekends? If you’re locked in on these YOTD’s you can avoid the messy weekend rush by picking up a pair now on eBay.

Jordan Brand were all over the Year of the Rabbit, having started with the Air Jordan 2011 YOTR and its overseas launch on Chinese New Year, followed by similar colorways on the Air Jordan VII Retro, and ending up with the AJ2011′s Q Flight variation. That kind of duplication isn’t possible this year given the AJ flagship model’s configuration (more on that later today), so don’t expect a ‘YOTD’ Air Jordan 2012 Q Flight, because that’s actually a part of the Deluxe package. This three-insole, two-bootie setup will come a bit later this year than last, but its February 23rd release date and $223 MSRP offer a familiar theme from the greatest signature sneaker series in history. Stick with Sneaker News for more on JB’s plans for the rest of the spring season, and click through for more shots of the Air Jordan 2012 ‘Year of the Dragon’ before it hits retailers in a couple weeks.

Jordan Brand first introduced the two-tiered box package in January of 2006 when the Defining Moments Package was unveiled to the public. That set-up would soon be the blueprint for a vast collection of package releases that followed, notable the 2008 onslaught of Collezione goodness that offered sneakerheads a two-hit combo of Retro flavor. Earlier this month, Sneaker News showed you images of the Air Jordan 2012 ‘Year Of The Dragon’ box that housed not two, but three compartmentalized tiers – one for the shoes and two others for the interchangeable cushioning units. Technically, the box holds one pair of shoes, but the Air Jordan 2012 truly offers six different combinations of performance comfort thanks to the mid and high-cut removable booties and the Fly Through, Over, and Around cushioning units. Basic math will tell you that you have six options to choose from, all of which are housed in this ornately designed box. The Year Of The Dragon collection is likely to release very soon in conjunction with this upcoming Chinese New Year (falling on Monday, the 23rd), but if you want to get a hold of your pair early, snag one now from id4shoes on eBay.

It has some stiff competition from the Kobe VII System and Air Force 1 in the ‘Best Packaging’ category for any awards bestowed upon the Nike ‘Year of the Dragon’ collection, but the Air Jordan 2012 YOTD‘s box is inarguably the most complex. Housing a pair of AJ2012s, two booties and three different cushioning platforms, this Water Dragon-inspired package offers the same kind of thorough attention to excellence that you see from the shoe’s design. Especially with this high-energy colorup, you get the sense for how well this model plays on opposite extremes, effortlessly pairing a dressy wingtoe approach with Flywire accenting a palette that’d make Chris Paul wish he was still a Hornet. Click through for images of both booties, let us know which ones you’d rock and stick with Sneaker News for the Air Jordan 2012 YOTD release date. via HK-kicks

Our sneakerhead friends in the Far East always get a jump on these Year Of The xxxx releases, and so a special a special event was held in Shanghai to celebrate the release of the iconic quartet of the Air Force 1, Air Jordan 2012, Zoom KD IV, and Zoom Kobe VII. On display was the collection of kicks in separate podiums fit for the finest works of art, but deep inside the space was an event set-up that pointed to one thing – basketball. A nice 2-on-2 tournament was held, with winners receiving a sick prize of Year Of The Dragon kicks and the mind-blowing Destroyer Jacket that we showed you last week. More snapshots of the event are below, so take a look and stick with Sneaker News for release information and updates! via kenlu.

More than any other single pack in the early goings of 2012, the Nike ‘Year of the Dragon’ collection has taken top billing as the most impressive. Not only are we getting the customary Nike Air Force 1 Low for the Chinese New Year celebration, but Jordan Brand will also capitalize on the strength of last year’s YOTR releases to bring the Air Jordan 2012 to market with a Water Dragon theme. Zoom Kobe VII Supremes and Zoom KD IVs round out the group for the strongest and most cohesive Lunar New Year set ever concieved, and with the AF1s dropping this past weekend, it’s only a matter of time before the other three make it to retail. Click through to see a video detailing each shoe’s dragon-inspired details and stick with Sneaker News for the rest of the ‘Year of the Dragon’ release dates.
