Sneaker News has been jam-packed full of Air Jordan 2012 news today with its official unveiling, and while we’ve learned of a handful of new release dates, let’s not forget about the one that was established on Groundhog Day. The Air Jordan 2012 Deluxe debuts in two colorways Wednesday, February 8th, the above-pictured of which is innovative not only with its ‘Choose Your Flight’ construction, but also a boldly unique palette. And while these Dunkman-like colorways are all the rage at the moment, this is the first time since the Air Jordan XIV ‘Indiglo’ dropped in 1999 that a first-run Air Jordan flagship has dropped in a colorway featuring neon accents. If one had to choose a color to depict the ‘aura’ of Michael Jordan, black and red would be the instant choice. The combination of black and red made famous by Michael’s unmatched tenure with the Chicago Bulls has created a trademark colorway for sneakers beautified by the Air Jordan, but a true Black/Red colorway was absent from the Air Jordans prior – the last time seen in the Air Jordan XX3. It’s an Air Jordan 2012 takeover today on Sneaker News, as Jordan Brand launches the twenty-seventh installment on the most storied footwear saga in history. With a wide release slated for this upcoming NBA All-Star Weekend, there surely is a special set of colorways for that special event, as we’ve seen with prior Air Jordan releases. The Air Jordan 2012 ‘All-Star’ features two opposing themes colored up in bold colors of red and navy blue, using solid white outsoles and interiors to create a sweet contrast of visual color. Not only can you ‘Choose Your Flight’ with the Air Jordan 2012, but following up on last year’s unprecedented launch of the AJ flagship on NIKEiD, the current model will also offer an array of online customization options. The Air Jordan 2012 iD will debut on February 14th alongside the A, E and Q editions at select JB retailers, allowing for more control if you want to get a bit more expressive than the AJ2012′s relatively subdued designs. When you get a sense for how much this shoe and its variations allow for a true custom fit, one can’t help but wonder what the future will hold for this pioneering series that never fails to surprise the industry with groundbreaking designs and technical achievements. Upon revealing the Air Jordan 2012 Deluxe ‘YOTD’ release date earlier today, we noted that we won’t be getting a sequel to the Chinese New Year-themed AJ2011 Q Flight because it’s built right in to the multiple ‘Flight’ package. But that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to select the flight of your choosing this year, because in addition to the Deluxe model, Tinker Hatfield and Tom Luedecke also designed their modular system to be broken into its individual components. The Air Jordan 2012 A comes with a sleeker low-cut sleeve and packs the ‘Fly Over’ midsole with Zoom Air cushioning in the forefoot plus encapsulated Air in the heels. That one’s coming up in white/black, while the also-low-cut Air Jordan 2012 Q, whose Zoom-heeled ‘Fly Around’ cushioning is available with Old Royal or Varsity Red booties and laces. The same color options are also up for grabs with the higher cut Air Jordan 2012 E, the model offering a full-length encapsulated Air cushion to help you ‘Fly Through’ your opponents. Jordan Brand will drop all five of the A, E and Q offerings on Saturday, February 25th, so with all the options available, which will you choose?

Jordan Brand were all over the Year of the Rabbit, having started with the Air Jordan 2011 YOTR and its overseas launch on Chinese New Year, followed by similar colorways on the Air Jordan VII Retro, and ending up with the AJ2011′s Q Flight variation. That kind of duplication isn’t possible this year given the AJ flagship model’s configuration (more on that later today), so don’t expect a ‘YOTD’ Air Jordan 2012 Q Flight, because that’s actually a part of the Deluxe package. This three-insole, two-bootie setup will come a bit later this year than last, but its February 23rd release date and $223 MSRP offer a familiar theme from the greatest signature sneaker series in history. Air Jordan fanatics are arguably the most passionate of all sneakerheads, so determining the concensus GOAT (even though we managed to get some sense of public opinion in our OG tourney) is kind of like forcing the world to vote on its favorite song. But there’s no arguing that the Air Jordan 2012 offers the most complete range of options of any in the game-changing series’ quarter-century-plus, this latest drop allowing you a number of configurations colored in Wolf Grey with neon accents. Only a select few Air Jordan Legacy releases have ever offered such a high energy colorway, and even fewer in the model’s initial run; could these possibly have the boldest OG Air Jordan palette ever conceived?
