A major story of the past week was the sudden return of Nike Air on the Air Jordan III Retro. The last time the White/Cements featured this amazing detail was during its ’94 Retro run, when Michael was in the middle of his first retirement phase. The Air Jordan III White/Cement returned against in 2003 as well as in 2011 with the Jumpman logo, so this rumored February All-Star release is already considered to be one of the most anticipated Air Jordan releases of 2013 (note the ‘Jordan’ on the outsoles). So last night’s breaking news regarding the upcoming Air Jordan III with Nike Air on the heel caught the attention of the sneaker community rather swiftly, with responses to this exciting turn of events being surprisingly mixed. What we expected to be praise across the board, some of our readers pointed out that the ‘Nike Air’ controversy isn’t really that much of a big deal, while others were completely psyched at a re-release of White/Cements on its own. The release of the ‘Bright Crimson‘ this Spring was a clear hint that maybe Jordan Brand did have something cool in the works, but for those who already have the ’11 White/Cements in their stash, do these have priority? The Air Jordan III will be sticking around for a while in 2013, the likes of the ‘Joker’ and ‘Bright Crimson’ pairs getting joined by an OG look later on in the year. That would be the Air Jordan III ‘Fire Red’, the only of the original colorways for this sneaker to not get the retro treatment in the recent 2011 run. Interestingly enough, the pair falls in the same season as this all new ‘Fire Red’ Air Jordan IV, so they may be part of some simultaneous pack. The latest color-swap custom sneaker creation playing on themes from the Air Jordan Legacy combines one of the most popular colorways in recent years with one of the series’ most beloved silhouettes. One of those “can’t believe we haven’t seen this one yet” styles pairing two heavyweight concepts, the Air Jordan III ‘Space Jam’ by EBreez3 follows up on his ‘Eminem’ and ‘Tokyo23 Flip’ Threes with a design that blends the aesthetics of the legendary free throw line dunk contest winner and that surreal ‘Stretch Armstrong’ impersonation in the Bugs Bunny collabo film. A patent leather mudguard and blue accents really does the trick, but one can’t help but wonder how dope a translucent sole like the Doernbecher collabo’s might have been (and what about a Cordura upper?). Melo has been a huge figure in New York sports ever since making his move out to the Big Apple a couple of years ago, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still rock gear that has an association outside of the Empire State. Two of the more talked-about Air Jordan Retros that are slated for a 2013 release is the duet of spicy Air Jordan IIIs in ‘Bright Crimson‘ and ‘Joker‘. Although these have been getting a lot of attention, will they steal some of the shine from all the Spring 2013 Air Jordan Retros, like the OG White/Red/Black Air Jordan 1 or Air Jordan V?
