Air Jordan 5 Laney – Official Image

The general consensus is that Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.  In this context it seems so unlikely that he could have ever been left off the varsity squad, but this is also why His Airness’ rise to immortality is so inspiring.  MJ worked hard to make sure nothing like that would ever happen again and he parlayed his successes at Wilmington’s Laney High School into a full ride at UNC.  This ‘Laney’ Air Jordan V Retro captures Mikes formative years in a colorway that was the first ever Retro+ for the AJV, back in 2000.  November 2nd will be the first time the Laneys are re-released, so the demand is sure to be high and you can see the official Jordan Brand photo below while we wait for the release date.

“Infrared” Air Jordan 3Lab5

infrared 3lab5 jordans 1 Infrared Air Jordan 3Lab5

What would happen if you put a cup of Air Jordan III and a dash of AJVI in a blender and poured it into a cup of Jordan 5?  In the best of all possible worlds, something like the ‘Infrared’ Air Jordan 3Lab5 would emerge, a blend of some of the more memorable visual cues from Tinker Hatfield’s first few go-rounds with the Jumpman.  As we saw in a comparison yesterday, the ‘Infrared 23′ 3Lab5s are constructed like the Cement Grey/Gamma Blue edition up top, but make the midsole far more expressive by way of the signature bright red color.  Stick with Sneaker News to find out when a release date is announced and check out some new images below in the meantime.

Almost as interesting as the use of all-over elephant print on a model other than the Air Jordan III is the box tag on the so-called Air Jordan 3Lab5. That’s right, the material use in this case apparently as the sneakers classified as a whole different model as far as Jordan Brand nomenclature is concerned. Next up from those models is this pair, one that ends up subtler across the top thanks to the blackout choice but a bit more head-turning on bottom thanks to the very specific “Infrared 23″ tone. Continue reading for a more complete look and then let us know if this Air Jordan 5 is one you’re looking forward to.

“Infrared 23″ Air Jordan 3Lab5

We know from the get-go that there were more sneakers coming from Jordan Brand’s “Element Series”, but we had assumed that the Air Jordan 5 in particular was done in the collection after that first elephant pair. Such is not the case, as there appears to be a black and red version of the shoe on the way. Not only does the sneaker pull the elephant texture from the Air Jordan III, it also pulls the infrared tone from the Air Jordan VI. Check out the results with us below and stick with Sneaker News for word on the release info on the “Infrared 23″ Air Jordan 3Lab5.

What Do You Think?: A Stampede of Elephant Print

September 12th, 2013 by | 18 comments

too much elephant print What Do You Think?: A Stampede of Elephant Print

In a week and some change the Air Jordan V 3Lab5 will release. The sneaker gets liberal with the use of the crackled grey print that first appeared on the Air Jordan III back in 1988, almost completely covering the upper with its squiggly lines. The release represents a kind of culmination of borrowings of that “Elephant Print” pattern, one that was for many years exclusive to the model that it debuted on. Is this a tasteful application or are you of the opinion that far too many models these days borrow that Elephant Print pattern from Tinker Hatfield’s 1988 masterpiece? Do you think the overuse of this iconic visual is a sacrilege of sorts, or are you a proponent of Nike giving consumers what they want?
