Last Holiday season, Jordan Brand hit us with four (yes, four) different colorways of the Air Jordan II. The ‘Candy Pack’, which was comprised of three tonal colorways of the Air Jordan II, as well as the Black/White colorway all hit stores in October and early November, and it appears that another mass release is in store – although the shoe is not exactly a ‘Retro’. The Air Jordan 8.0 – a re-vamped version of the Air Jordan VIII – will be available in five colorways; this October 8th, expect a ‘Playoff’ colorway as well as a White/Navy version, followed by a trio of other team-based colorways on October 22nd. The Air Jordan 8.0 is actually completely re-tooled, utilizing a brand new midsole, Flywire stabilization, and a Hyperfuse-like no-sew upper. Check out all five October 2011 colorways of the Air Jordan 8.0 and stick with Sneaker News for more Jordan Brand Holiday 2011 info.

Jordan Brand has the ambitious task of re-inventing its most historic models in such a way that contemporary methods of performance basketball sneakers are utilized without compromising the legendary design of the Air Jordan Legacy. We saw a first attempt with the Air Jordan 2.0, which featured the Air Jordan II upper with a basketball-specific full-length Max Air sole. For the Air Jordan 8.0, Jordan Brand implemented the lightweight, no-sew upper construction with Flywire on the crossing mid-foot straps; the lightweight yet sturdy upper and Flywire are common details seen in today’s most advanced basketball kicks like the Nike Hyperdunk 2011 and upcoming Nike LeBron 9, and combined with the iconic design of the Air Jordan VIII, the Air Jordan 8.0 seamlessly meshes unmistakable style with unparalleled function. The ‘graffiti’ like print on the heel-guard of the Air Jordan VIII has also been revamped, as this new White/Metallic Silver-Varsity Red-Stealth colorway features a new paint-splatter detail. Europe’s Afew has these in stock right now so check out the detailed gallery below and look out for these at stateside Jordan Brand retailers soon.

The Air Jordan VIII will be next in line in the Jordan Brand ‘point-zero’ series, in which original Air Jordan models are re-thrust into the sneaker scene with completely retooled and refinished uppers. Just yesterday Sneaker News showed you a White/Blue/Grey colorway that garnered quite the response from our readers, and we don’t expect much different for this new edition of White/Red/Grey. Some of the prominent Air Jordan VIII features return, like the crossing in-step straps and the graffiti-like print on the midsole, but what’s new is the Flywire-stabilized upper and revised midsole construction. While we only have a lateral shot of this shoe, one could imagine the medial side to feature some sort of Hyperfuse-like material (if the earlier catalog shots are of any indication) for added ventilation, which was one of the primary issues with the Air Jordan VIII. Somewhere, Bugs Bunny is munching his carrots in acceptance or dissatisfaction, but what do you think? Chime in below and expect the Air Jordan 8.0 to arrive later this year. via villa.

Each of Jordan Brand’s signature models got ‘Advanced’ this summer, Chris Paul’s CP3 Advance the only one of the three that didn’t feature a Flywire upgrade. Carmelo Anthony’s M7 Advance and the AJ2011 A-Flight both added the superlight, superstrong material to their uppers, and are now joined by a model that debuted some eighteen years ago. The Air Jordan 8.0 takes the criss-crossed strap design to a new level with Flywire beneath, and apparently the change was so radical, it altered the AJVIII’s signature streaking midsole graphics. These are reported to be an October drop by Villa, although we had originally expected the 8.0 to be a 2012 release. Are you ready for a world where the Air Jordan Legacy gets upgraded to rival today’s cutting edge performance machines? We’ve seen the Alpha 1s and 2.0s and coming up next January is the Air Jordan 8.0. The latest tech-oriented AJ upgrade is decidedly similar to the original, these early catalog images signaling the lighter upper construction with the side panel ventilation ports that may or may not be Hyperfuse material. Fuse would be a nice fit for this sleeker take on the ‘Aqua’ colorway that’s so fresh they seem to be global trendsetter Kanye West’s favorite to this day.
