The topic of sneaker restocks stirred up quite the conversation during our What Do You Think? segment a few weeks back, but it looks like the chatter is about to explode yet again as a major restock of various Air Jordan Retro releases might be in the works. Already confirmed for a re-release on May 25th (Memorial Day) by retailers is the Air Jordan III Retro ’88 and Air Jordan IV “Thunder” (Finishline only), but according to kamuekcmo on NT, some other notable Air Jordan Retros from 2012/2013 might make a return as well; shoes like the Air Jordan XI “Bred”, Air Jordan IV “White/Cement”, the Air Jordan V “Grape” (scheduled for a re-release on 6/1 alongside the Black Grapes), and even quite possibly some Foamposites (Fighter Jets, Stealths, Polarized Pink) may potentially return among a slew of other Air Jordans.
Now that we know the date of when this may happen, some of you may be wondering why; this major restock may be a means for Nike/Jordan Brand to boost its annual (or more specifically – quarterly) sales numbers as the current Nike Inc. fiscal quarter began on March 1st and ends on May 31st. Obviously this is good news for anyone who missed out on some of these major Air Jordan releases that have since passed (whether due to a low number of available stock or a lack of funds), so the question is – is an “official release date” all that important anymore if these restocks become a trend of sorts, especially since it’s happened a few times in 2013? We’ll keep you updated on this potential mass restock which is currently projected to go down on May 25th (remember, the Retro ’88s and Thunders are already confirmed for that date), so let us know what your thoughts are on this event and we’ll update this list when official confirmations from retailers are announced.

Sneakerheads in Japan have to be stoked about the sudden “restock” of the Air Jordan III Retro ’88 this Saturday, because if that sick “Carmine VI” spotting on Ichiro’s feet was any indication, our pals from the Far East are as excited about Jays as we are. We recently reported a re-release in Asia, so we’re hitting our readers from afar with a reminder today because of the time difference. These are indeed scheduled to drop on March 23rd at 11:00 AM in the local time at Nike Harajuku (they are thirteen hours ahead of our EST). but if you’re still searching for a pair, plenty are to be had on eBay.

Jordan Brand brought back ‘Nike Air’ on the Air Jordan Retro by introducing the original White/Cement colorway of the III as a special tribute to Jordan’s iconic free-throw line Dunk from the ’88 Dunk Contest. Will the ‘Black/Cement’ make a comeback as well? It seems like it could make sense seeing that Michael did in fact wear the ‘Black/Cement’ colorway during that 1988 All-Star Game, during which he dropped forty points and took home the MVP trophy. Is a All-Star Weekend release in the works? If so, these are likely to be as hot of an item as the last time we saw the Air Jordan III ‘Black/Cement’ with ‘Nike Air’ was in 2001 and 1994. This teaser shot was spotted in a preview of an upcoming ESPN special on the Air Jordan and its impactful presence in sports and fashion, so stay tuned to Sneaker News for more updates on this potential Air Jordan III Retro ’88 release.

We’ve only got a few hours before the official release of the Air Jordan III Retro’ 88 goes down at 4:51 PM EST, but Jordan Brand decided to hit us with one last official look at the most polarizing Retro release in recent memory. Celebrating Michael Jordan’s triumph at the NBA Dunk Contest a quarter-century ago, this release brings back memories of the original much in part due to the primitive style of Air Jordan sneaker branding on the heel. Will you be pulling the trigger later today when the shoes release? Let us know in the comments below.

For a while, the day an Air Jordan III with ‘Nike Air’ on the heel released would be far-fetched plot. Branding issues have removed any ‘Nike’ billboarding on an Air Jordan shoe for over a decade (with the exception of the Swoosh on the Air Jordan 1 and ‘NIKE’ on the heel of the Air Jordan II), but with an opportune time like the 25th Anniversary of Jordan’s iconic Dunk Contest win coming tomorrow, it’s time for Nike Air to make a comeback. The discussion has been endless, but we’re certain tomorrow’s release of the Air Jordan III Retro ’88 will be one of the biggest of the year (definitely one of the Top 30 of 2013). These are slated to release tomorrow at select Jordan Brand retailers with Eastbay and Finishline confirming their release at 4:51 PM EST, so don’t miss out by copping now from retro_licks on eBay.
