For a while, the day an Air Jordan III with ‘Nike Air’ on the heel released would be far-fetched plot. Branding issues have removed any ‘Nike’ billboarding on an Air Jordan shoe for over a decade (with the exception of the Swoosh on the Air Jordan 1 and ‘NIKE’ on the heel of the Air Jordan II), but with an opportune time like the 25th Anniversary of Jordan’s iconic Dunk Contest win coming tomorrow, it’s time for Nike Air to make a comeback. The discussion has been endless, but we’re certain tomorrow’s release of the Air Jordan III Retro ’88 will be one of the biggest of the year (definitely one of the Top 30 of 2013). These are slated to release tomorrow at select Jordan Brand retailers with Eastbay and Finishline confirming their release at 4:51 PM EST, so don’t miss out by copping now from retro_licks on eBay.

At this point you can’t really ignore Mark Wahlberg’s sneaker game given how often the actor has been popping up in random Jordan Brand retros. This time he was spotted with a certified classic on feet-the Air Jordan III ‘White/Cement’, that pair that saw a retro release just a couple years ago and that will be back next week. The much anticipated Air Jordan III ’88 retro has a release date of February 6th. The sneakers serve as one of the most unexpected drops in a long time, both because of the long awaited ‘Nike Air’ treatment on the back end and the fact that the Air Jordan III saw a pretty thorough retro run just two years ago. The pair comes as an NBA All-Star tribute, specifically referencing Michael Jordan’s slam dunk championship from that year (the February 6th release date ending on the same day of that moment 25 years ago). If you’ve been keeping up with Jordan Brand’s build up to the Air Jordan XX8, then you’re well aware that today is the day for the Air Jordan III to shine in the ‘Black/Neon Green’ Air Jordan collection. And shine it does, as this colorway ends up particularly luxurious thanks to the smooth black leather treatment wrapping the upper. We’ve seen blacked out Air Jordan III’s before (think ‘Black Cat’) but never with this level of premium leather utilized. The neon green sections keep things in line with the other sneakers in the series-showing up for the lining and the outsole.
