blue air jordans True Blue: A Look Back at Blue Air Jordans

This summer is a big one for blue Air Jordans: the Air Jordan 6 “Sport Blue” is leading the charge as the cherished original colorway sparking the movement and pairs like the Air Jordan 3, Air Jordan 14, and plenty of ancillary Jordan Brand styles have followed suit. Of course if you know your Air Jordan history, you know that there have been blue shoes in the mix since day one, and throughout the years, there have been plenty of different reasons for Jordan Brand’s sneakers to sport blue (No pun intended).

In 2014, rappers are given sneakers with increasing frequency. And we don’t mean “given” in the sense of blessed with promotional pairs ahead of the release date, but rather they’ve had more and more opportunities to channel their personae into limited footwear collections thanks to the support of sneaker companies. This process didn’t happen overnight though, it took a couple of decades of endorsements before the floodgates really opened as far as special SMUs went. You of course have to give credit to Run DMC back in the ’80s for championing their adidas, and to a lesser extent LL Cool J for linking up with Troop (Although fellow Queens rapper MC Shan didn’t approve).

Eminem x Air Jordan IV ‘Encore’ – Sample Version

eminem x air jordan iv encore sample version 1 Eminem x Air Jordan IV Encore Sample Version

With genuine DS pairs about as rare as an autographed first pressing of Infinite, the Eminem x Air Jordan IV ‘Encore’ is one of the most desired collectibles born in this age of collaboration.  Em’s IVs came in a distinctive Lions-leaning blue nubuck upper just like the sample version pictured here, but instead of a matching eyelet wing, this nixed design went with the traditional polymer build.  This coupled with a lighter grey on the mid- and outsoles makes for an easy spot, but then again, the photos that you’ll see after the jump below are likely as close as any of us will get to seeing these in person.  Let us know if the right one was issued and stick with Sneaker News for more rare Air Jordan samples like this one revealed by former Jordan Brand head and current Nike Sportswear lead man Gentry Humphrey.

Eminem and Jordan Brand were a match made in heaven a few years back when it came to the vigorously sought after collaboration models like the Air Jordan II and IV. It’s been a while since we saw JB and Slim Shady link up, but now we get our first look at a new Spiz’ike unmistakably inspired by the infamous Eminem Encore Air Jordan IV. While it’s still unclear if there is any official tie to the rapper for this go-around, the color combo and application make it hard to ignore the Air Jordan IV influences.  You can check out some more info after the jump and stay tuned for more info coming soon. via MarqueeSole

Update: Marquee Sole had unknowingly nicknamed these the Eminem Jordan Spizike, but these are really Spike Lee Knicks PE’s that he showed off and wore back in April.
