The Kilroy Pack, return of the Olives, the Photo Blue fiasco, Oswaldo’s Doernbechers – it’s been an incredible right for the Air Jordan IX this Holiday season. Tomorrow, the show will reach a grand finale with the release of the ‘Cool Grey’ – a Retro colorway that first released in 2002 and adopted the famous Air Jordan XI edition that preceded that by one year. Are these the best Air Jordan IXs of the year? It’s got some tough competition, but the Cool Grey definitely deserves some props. These will hit Jordan Brand retailers tomorrow, so let us know where these rank among all the 9s that hit stores, and cop yours in advance from neo122401 on eBay.

After the recent release of the Air Jordan IX ‘Olive’ we’re getting another familiar look for that silhouette, albeit not quite an OG one. Pictured here is the Air Jordan IX ‘Cool Grey’, set to hit stores in just about a week. It will be the swan song for the Air Jordan IX in this particular year, marking the last of a huge crop of pairs that managed to sustain plenty of interest thanks to the story telling approach of the ‘Doernbecher’ and ‘Johnny Kilroy’ pairs. Click through to get a look and watch for the Air Jordan IX ‘Cool Grey’ at spots like Mr. R Sports on December 15th.

When it was announced back in spring as a Q4 2012 drop, the ‘Cool Grey’ Air Jordan IX Retro instantly became one of the holiday season’s highest profile releases. But the past few months have brought forth several new styles, and after the ‘Johnny Kilroy’ capsule brought the total to nine IXs for ’12, it’s worth checking in with this beloved style to see where they rank on your revised list of priorities. Dropping two weeks after the ‘Motorboat Jones’ alias finale and a week or a little more before the traditional holiday Elevens (Bred this time around, of course), the Cool Grey 9s have some serious competition (and what about that Doernbecher rumor?!). Sneaker News will keep you posted with all updates as we approach the December 15th release date and you can see a new set of images below in the meantime.

Will this December’s ‘Cool Grey’ release be as successful as the 2010 Cool Grey release? Granted, the IX isn’t nearly as popular as the XI is, but Cool Grey IX is one of the most popular Retro releases of all-time. Originally releasing in 2002, the Air Jordan IX ‘Cool Grey’ was one of the few Air Jordans that pulled off patent leather fairly well, but does it stand out enough to warrant another Air Jordan IX purchase considering the six Kilroy Pack releases and the other two Retros (not to mention the rumor of the next Doernbecher release being the Air Jordan IX)? Many are looking solely at the Cool Greys, so if you want them ahead of the December release date, get ‘em now from el-store on eBay.

Jordan Brand just released the first of six new Air Jordan 9s inspired by Michael’s first retirement from basketball. Described in that more general way, one might look beyond the ‘Johnny Kilroy’ pack to recognize that seven Nines for Holiday ’12 touch on the MJ’s-no-longer-a-Bull theme, including the ‘Cool Grey’ colorup that debuted just over a decade ago. The Air Jordan IX ‘Cool Grey’ was something of a sequel to that colorway’s 2001 Air Jordan 11 debut and follows a bit further behind that model’s ’10 retro, but they’ll drop about one week before (the expected date for) this year’s Christmas Elevens. So whether it’s the retirement thread or all the patent leather Jordans available for Q4 you’ve got a tremendous variety of Air Jordan Legacy styles to choose from, and more photos of this selection follow the jump below.

The upcoming Air Jordan IX ‘Cool Grey’ isn’t an OG colorway of the Air Jordan IX, but it is indeed a Retro release that came out when Michael was still playing (albeit for the Wizards). Not many remember, but Jordan wore the Cool Grey IX for a few games when he was with the Wizards, scattered among a slew of other Jordan Retros like the Cool Grey XI and True Blue III. This Holiday season, Jordan Brand brings back another healthy dose of Cool Grey in ‘IX’ form, and we’re sure these will be copped aplenty just off the ‘Cool Grey’ excitement. Are these a must-have for you? A detailed gallery awaits you below, so make your decision in the comments below.

When Sneaker News first scooped you on the 2012 ‘Cool Grey’ Air Jordan 9 back in March, we were running the March Madness Non-OG Air Jordan Tournament to see which Retro-Plus style was your favorite. The field is a bit narrower for the CGAJ9′s next roung of competition, but it might be more difficult given five brand new colorways releasing this season on that same silhouette. But while the ‘Alias’ colorups are entirely unproven commodities, we know Jordanheads are going to devour the stock of Cool Grey Nines and then head to eBay to get seconds. A new batch of photos below should tide you over as we approach the December 15th release date, so let us know which is emerging as your personal favorite in a holiday season packed to the gills with AJIX drops and check back with us for updates.

Last seen in stores in 2002, the Air Jordan IX ‘Cool Grey’ will be the final Holiday 2012 release of the Air Jordan IX, so is Jordan Brand necessarily saving the best AJ9 for last? Go a few months ahead in your planners and circle December 15th for the Cool Grey IX and let us know if these Retros are the best of the years! via scforums
