AIR JORDAN IX ‘KILROY PACK’ The Air Jordan IX ‘Kilroy Pack’ is a group of six separate colorways of the Air Jordan IX, each one based on a fictional alter-ego of Michael Jordan created in an ad campaign of old. The group includes Johnny Kilroy, Fontay Montana, Bentley Ellis, Slim Jenkins, Motorboat Jones, and Calvin Bailey. The pairs are all set to release in Holiday 2012.

If you’ve studied your history then you’ve actually seen Calvin Bailey in action before, the player popping up for a few frames in the now ancient ‘Johnny Kilroy’ ad campaign for the original Air Jordan IX. Chances are you haven’t seen his sneakers in action though, so you might want to stick around for this one. The video shown gives a good breakdown of the details on the sneaker, lining them up with the rest in the vague Kilroy pack between the alternate tongue tag and inside embroidery. You’d think that if Michael Jordan really wanted to hide out but still play basketball he’d select a team about as far from the Chicago Bulls as possible. And while we don’t know the supposed location, the ‘Gulls’ team tying in with the fictional ‘Fontay Montana’ of Air Jordan IX fame would certainly tip folks off based on the name alone. Yeah Michael Jordan dressed up as Johnny Kilroy in that old ad campaign, but there were also a good number of other alter egos that got a little less shine. Joining the ranks of Bentley Ellis and Calvin Bailey is Fontay Montana, who gets an Air Jordan IX with a creamsicle looking colorway quite reminiscent of this Darius Miles PE (no word on the affiliated team for the fictional character though). The ratio of upcoming Air Jordan IX colorways designed for Michael himself versus other ‘people’ is starting to look like a scene in Space Jam, as more new styles reveal their stories in advance of holiday release dates. The Air Jordan IX ‘Johnny Kilroy’ hearkens back to the 1993 Steve Martin TV spot in which the Swoosh supposed Mike might be up to his old tricks, under a new disguise. They remind us that His Airness had the talent to become the Ronnie Coleman of the NBA instead of ‘just’ a two-time three-peater, and will be joined by ‘Crawfish’ and ‘Calvin Bailey’ colorups (not to mention the Penny/Magic-esque ‘Photo Blues’) to thicken the plot of MJ’s first retired/baseball season. This one’s coming up first with an October 6th drop date and you can see more images below to tide you over.

The Air Jordan IX has already marked its territory for the Holiday 2012 season with the confirmed releases of the ‘Cool Grey’, ‘Olive’, ‘Kilroy’ capsule, and a few others. Time to make some room for yet another new Air Jordan IX colorway because we’re getting a look at yet another inclusion of the ‘Kilroy’ Pack – the Air Jordan IX ‘Calvin Bailey’; the Blue/Yellow colorway alludes to the fictional team ‘Gary’ that Calvin Bailey (one of Michael’s personas) played for during the ‘retirement’ period, fitting right in with the ‘Crawfish’ concept and the Kilroy theme as a whole. In less than two months, we will get reminded of one of the saddest moments in sports history – when Michael Jordan decided to hang up his jersey for good after conquering all that he sought after as an NBA professional. Not two years later, Jordan would return to the game of basketball, but his true love for the game was exemplified by Nike’s ‘Johnny Kilroy’ ad campaign and those ‘Kilroy Kicks Butt’ t-shirts. Hopefully those old-school tees will make a comeback alongside the Air Jordan IX ‘Johnny Kilroy’ on October 6th, but if you can’t wait to get these laced on your feet, on pair just popped up for sale from aznkevin888 on eBay.
