air jordan unreleased samples through the years Unreleased Air Jordan Samples Through The Years

Over the years we’ve seen some amazing (and questionable) colorways of Air Jordans and Air Jordan Retros surface on the web. In fact, there might be as many unreleased mock-ups as there are produced versions, but who knows what’s really stowed in the deep dark vaults inside the Jordan Brand headquarters and overseas factories? We’ve compiled a fairly thorough gallery of some notable Air Jordan sample colorways that have never seen the light of day at retail; some of these already have noted legends behind them, like the Air Jordan VI “Infrared” Retro with the flipped midsole and the Air Jordan V “Gold” that may or may not have been made for an employee, but some of the stuff we’ve come across cause us to question why the shoes were never released, or why they were created in the first place! Of course, this gallery isn’t a complete list of every unreleased sample, but take a moment to skim through the gallery below and let us know which unreleased Air Jordan sample catches your eyes the most.

Air Jordan IX “Black Bottom” – Release Reminder

black bottom air jordan ix sample 5 Air Jordan IX Black Bottom Release Reminder

Jordan Brand released the Air Jordan IX “Photo Blue” during the Holiday 2012 season, but that release was marked by one of the more publicized factory snafus in history. Several pairs (and by several, we mean in the five-figure range) were mistakenly produced with a black outsole rather than a white version, but instead of sending the shoes to the incinerator, Nike has decided to release the sneakers as a B-Grade release for $130. According to Nike, “B-grade” is the technical term for a flawed product; in this case, the only flaw is that the outsole color doesn’t match the product code. So, you’re getting a pretty sweet deal and a pair of perfectly built shoes that are limited in number. The release of the Air Jordan IX “Black Bottom” will be exclusively through Nikestore via a Twitter link that should go live at 7PM EST. Will you cop? Gear up for tomorrow’s release and let us know if you’ll be in the hunt because there’s a pair up for grabs no from oregonsole on eBay.

We continue our string of insane sneaker collections on Instagram with a focus on PEvault – a collector with a distinct taste for the rarest Player Exclusives in Air Jordan and Nike Basketball form. We’re certain that what he has up on his Instagram profile is just a snippet of what has in his “PE vault”, but what he shows us is ridiculously impressive – the Air Jordan IV “Laser” samples given to Melo right after the Olympics, the Air Jordan V Ray Allen PE during his Seattle days, an Air Jordan IX Low for former NFL Runningback Marshall Faulk, and a lot more. Check out some of the gems on his Instagram profile and give him a Follow – you never know what other insane heat he’s gonna come up with next!

Air Jordan IX “Black Bottom” – Release Info

air jordan ix black bottom release info Air Jordan IX Black Bottom Release Info

Remember the alternate “Black Bottom” version of the Air Jordan IX “Photo Blue” that was produced last year as a factory mistake? It looks like that pair will be trotted out for a retail release after all. The move is sort of reminiscent of the “Banned” Air Jordan 1 fiasco, wherein a b-grade labeled sneaker that would otherwise just be destroyed is let loose upon the masses. Also exciting is the price-point: the Air Jordan IX “Black Bottom” will hit for just $130. Continue reading to see some images of this out-of-nowhere release of the Air Jordan IX “Black Bottom”, releasing on May 9th at 7PM EST exclusively at Nikestore via Twitter link only.

Air Jordan IX Low – 1993 Prototype

air jordan ix low 1993 prototype Air Jordan IX Low 1993 Prototype

It’s a bit overwhelming when you look back at all the crazy sneaker designs that came out of Tinker Hatfield’s imagination, but there has to be a number of unreleased mock-ups that never saw the light of the day. One of those scrapped models is this prototype of the Air Jordan IX Low; it features the same midsole construction as the Air Jordan IX, but the upper adopts a much more “lifestyle” approach with the classic toe-box and heel build while managing to distinguish itself with the diamond-stitching and tiny triangular perforations. Your thoughts on this prototype of the Air Jordan IX Low? Check out the full shot below and chime in.

Air Jordan IX – Black – Mesa Orange – Dark Grey | Unreleased Sample

air jordan ix black mesa orange cool grey sample 2 Air Jordan IX Black Mesa Orange Dark Grey | Unreleased Sample

The Holiday 2012 season saw enough Air Jordan IX releases to last the next decade, but it appears that Jordan Brand might have had another one up its sleeve as we get a first look at an unreleased colorway. Intended for a Holiday 2012 release, this Air Jordan IX Retro combines Black, Mesa Orange, and Dark Grey in a nubuck upper for a rather clean color-combo that we’ve never seen on an Air Jordan Retro. While the shoe is a predominant mix of Black, Grey, and White, the hits of Mesa Orange on the heel Jumpman and the badges on the heel give these Retros a really nice color-profile, but the release of the “Cool Grey” probably made these a bit too redundant. We’ve got a first look before so check out this unreleased sample below and see the full listing from jordunk23 on eBay.
