Another nickname for these Air Jordan Retros that has popped up is the Air Jordan V “Aqua”. While we do see the connection with the popular Air Jordan VIII colorway, we’ll point out that “Aqua” comes from the use of “Aquatone” – which this Air Jordan V does not. Aqua has a bit more of a blue tone compared to the New Emerald, although it’s hard to tell when paired with the purple and black upper. 2013 is shaping up to be an amazing year for Air Jordan V lovers, so are these a must-have for you, or are you in the hunt for the OG Air Jordan V “Grape” and the upcoming Laney release? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for a release date on the Air Jordan V “Black Grape”.

Freehand Profit doesn’t care what you think. He doesn’t care how upset it might make you if he chops up one of the most coveted sneaker releases in recent memory an appropriates it into his own piece of art. The sneaker that gets his buzz-saw treatment here is the Air Jordan V “Bin 23″ that pair from the seemingly extinct and exceedingly hard to find premio series of releases. See the the transformed Air Jordan V, a gas mask in tune with the out of this world looks we’ve come to expect from this off the wall sneaker artist, right after the jump.

So…what is it fellas – original “Grape” or the new “Black Grape”? The detailed gallery of the latter definitely brought on some new fans, with some going as far as calling them the Air Jordan V “Aqua” instead of the Air Jordan V “Black Grape”, but that new colorway doesn’t make use of “Aquatone” – the color used in the Air Jordan VIII and the origin of the popular nickname. We’d rather stick with Black Grape for now, but let’s not look to far into the future because the original Air Jordan V “Grape” is scheduled to arrive much sooner. If you can’t want the six weeks for a retail, these are indeed available for a few more dollars from prc.kicks on eBay.

There are a few subtle differences between this look-see sample and the original 2000 ‘Laney’ Air Jordan V; can you spot them? This shoe that calls to mind the school where somehow MJ was only good enough to play varsity during his third year is also a reminder of a time before Jordan Retros were mortal locks for first-day sellouts. Things change as time passes, including more people on board with sneaker fever and a select few who can point out this pair’s black Jumpman on the heel (the OG Laneys’ were blue). We still have a bit of a wait on these with no firm date set for the Holiday 2013 drop, so check out some new images and consider purchasing this sample from undergrdnyc on eBay.

Believe it or not, the Air Jordan V custom on display here is actually inspired by Winnie-the-Pooh. The backstory is a little bit more complicated than that though-the sneaker points to the black bear by the name of Winnie that was used as the initial inspiration for said fictional bear, a creature nicknamed after the Canadian city of Manitoba. The look in place is far from cartoony though, as creator Rocket Boy Nift puts in some serious work between the embroidered black bear patches on back and the detailed markings etched into the leather upper. Check out the Air Jordan V “Winnipeg” customs after the jump and purchase them now from niftnif1990 on eBay.
