A quick glimpse at your sneaker release calendar and you’ll quickly note that 2012 is the year to break the bank for some sick Air Jordans. Already heralded as the 23rd Anniversary of the Air Jordan IV, which denotes a number of Retro releases, Jordan Brand is also keying into the 2012 Summer Olympic Games while celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Dream Team. Among all of Michael Jordan’s career achievements, he’s actually played in the Olympics as an NBA Pro just once, anchoring that ’92 squad with his scoring ability and defense, and did so while wearing the Air Jordan VII in the ‘Olympic’ colorway. Later, in 2000, Ray Allen was selected as a member of the U.S. Olympic Mens Basketball Team, and continued the legacy of Air Jordans at the Summer Games by wearing the sick Air Jordan VI PE in a patriotic Navy, White, and Varsity Red. That particular Player Exclusive (which featured Ray’s name stitched on the heel), would later release at select Jordan retailers, and has since become one of the most sought-after and hard-to-find Air Jordan gems.

It’s one of the very few Retro Air Jordans that carries as much weight as the Originals, and some have appointed it as the best Air Jordan confirmed release of 2012 – more so than the Air Jordan IV ‘White/Cement’. However, Jordan Brand’s decision to alter the 2012 Retro by ‘flipping’ the forefoot of the midsole has garnered nods of approval from those who have prized and polished their 2000′s and fits of disapproval from those who have been waiting patiently for the stars to align and make this highly-anticipated re-release a reality. With the 2012 Retro being a trending topic here on Sneaker News, here’s a look at the original 2000 version below, so take a look and if you choose to go with the original, cop one of the available 2000 Retros like this one from gustadaninja on eBay.

We can only imagine how crazy an Olympic summer will be given the insane start to 2012.  But no matter what pops up between now and August, one of the biggest drops scheduled is the above pictured Air Jordan VI colorway first introduced at the 2000 Summer Games courtesy of sharpshooter extraordinaire Ray Allen.  The Air Jordan 6 ‘Olympics’ return after a dozen years on the bench with a slightly altered midsole blocking pattern that’ll make the new run easily distinguishable from the originals.  Expect these at Jordan Brand retailers the first week of July and get a sense for what others will see when you’re wearing them after the jump.  via bigman652

We’re two weeks from the extra day that gets tacked onto the end of February each leap year, but everybody knows that the best thing going on years divisible by four is the Summer Olympics Games.  This year’s London Olympiad marks twenty years since Michael Jordan and the original Dream Team’s dominant performance in Barcelona, so you know Jordan Brand’s going to be all over that opportunity.  But for all you young sneakerheads out there, the Air Jordan VI Retro ‘Olympic’ wasn’t MJ’s choice at the XXIV Games (he moved on to the Seven during the NBA season leading up to the ’92 Olympics), but rather Ray Allen who rocked them en route to the 2000 gold medal in Sydney.  Sneakerbox Clyde just caught Miami sneaker boutique SoleFly owner/founder Daniel Hidalgo rocking the ‘Olympic’ Air Jordan 6 Retros and they’re looking close to a spot-on reproduction of the original, but with JB’s fall 2012 lineup jam-packed with heat, how close to the top of your list are these?  Click through for more and stick with Sneaker News for updates in advance of the July 7th release date.

Confirmed for Fall 2012? The Air Jordan VI ‘Olympic’ and the original colorway of the ‘Fire Red’ Air Jordan IV – two surefire heaters that will set off the hot months ablaze. Sneaker News showed you the Air Jordan VI ‘Olympic’ last weekend, but here we have a quick teaser angle of the Air Jordan IV ‘Fire Red’; in 2007, Jordan Brand released a special edition of this colorway dubbed the ‘Mars’, which featured a famous Mars Blackmon logo on the heel. This 2012 version will come sans-Spike like the original. Seeing these two babies side-by-side may induce reddening of the face and jittery fingers, so proceed with caution to the extra angles below and stick with Sneaker News for more updates on all Air Jordan Retro releases for 2012. via Solefly’s @this_is_chino & @Verb04

Many of you may be looking forward to the Air Jordan IV ‘White/Cement’ or even the Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’, but don’t overlook the re-issue of one of the most sought after Air Jordans out there – the Air Jordan VI ‘Olympic’ that first dropped back in 2000. While Michael himself never wore this particular colorway (Ray Allen did during the 2000 Olympics), the Air Jordan VI ‘Olympic’ is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after Air Jordans of all-time, with the ’00 release fetching over $500. Sneaker News confirmed the release of these bad boys last week, but now we have a first look at the actual upcoming release. Check out the pics, wipe your drool, and let us know what you think in the comments section below. via US11.
