AIR JORDAN VI The Air Jordan VI released in 1991 and was designed by Tinker Hatfield. It is the sneaker that Michael Jordan won his first NBA Championship in. The most popular colorways of the Air Jordan VI is the ‘Infrared’ and ‘Olympic’.

With Nike now taking over the NFL outfitting rights (although we’ve seen Nike cleats and turf shoes in games for a while now), has the door for Jordan Brand in the NFL gone from ‘slightly ajar’ to ‘wide open’? It would be awesome to see Air Jordan Retro Player Exclusives run rampantly across the league (it sure was nice to see David Diehl stunt the pass rush with the Air Jordan VI PE Cleats during the recent NFC ‘chip game), like when Jordan Brand athlete and cornerback Dre Bly did a few years back. Peep these Air Jordan VI PE Cleats that were made for Bly for the 2007 season; it’s got that Navy/White upper for that ‘Olympic’ vibe, but without any true hint of red, these fall a tad short in achieving that status. The channel of sneaker customs is wide open now-a-days, and we’ve certainly seen some out-of-the-box thinking from these artists, like this ‘Jungle Fever’ concept of the Air Jordan VI. Some of the previous Air Jordan VI custom jobs we’ve seen required a steady painter’s hand, but this one, provided to us by Peculiar Kinetics, dabbles with some unique materials like snakeskin and leopard print to capture that dangerous yet appealing wildlife attitude. We’ve seen the VI in horror-movie form and also in a high-end sports-car build – so does this ‘Jungle Fever’ complete the set? Check out the detailed images below and stick with Sneaker News for more of the funkiest sneaker customs!

We’ve seen the Air Jordan VI brush up against the flossy look once or twice before, with the Air Jordan VI ‘DMP’ and the forthcoming ‘Gold Medal Pack’ version both introducing some hits of gold to the silhouette. This chromed out player exclusive Air Jordan VI cleat made for Terrell Owens’ at the time of the 2008 Pro Bowl blows both of those out of the water though in terms of gaudy metallic looks, a motif broken up only by the hits of navy brought in through the laces and lining to complete the Cowboy look (also notice the lack of branding in compliance with NFL guidelines). Hit the jump to get a close up look at the Air Jordan VI Terrell Owens 2008 Pro Bowl cleat PE and head over to the auction now from cnoriega_2007 on eBay.

With three Olympic-inspired Air Jordan releases hitting this July-August (all worthy of being headlining acts), it’ll be tough to pass up on any one of them. One such must-have is the Air Jordan VI/VII Gold Medal Pack, which some say will be more sought-after than the Air Jordan VI ‘Olympic’ and Air Jordan VII ‘Olympic’ (earlier confirmed for a July 21st release) due to the fact that the Retro colorways are something we’ve never seen before; this two-pack set, each based on opposing White and Black colors, use ‘Retro’ tones possibly to recreate that older ’92 Gold Medal feel, using Sail (an off-white tone) as the base-pairing. August 18th will be the release date for this popular set of kicks, sandwiched between the Air Jordan IV ‘Fire Red’ and Air Jordan VII ‘Raptors’. We’ve got some additional product information for you just below (note that the shoes will not be sold separately) so let us know in the comments section where these rank in your order of must-cop priority. via ISS

Wiz Khalifa is the subject of one of the recent ‘Bing Originals’ featurettes by Bing.com, portraying a fitting declaration of Wiz’s personal style and attitude. The tall and spindly hip-hop artist certainly has his own beat of fashion, going from high-end shoes and leather jackets to a snapback and Air Jordans (a range that this video captures perfectly). In this video, we see Wiz in his most rudimentary and relatable form – playing ball at the park with sweats and what appear to be Air Jordans; while the silhouette clearly determines the shoes to be the Air Jordan VI, the question remains which colorway these could be. All signs point to a customized version of the ‘Lakers‘ edition with the soles and midsoles blacked out, although they could always be a sample since there doesn’t seem to be any sign of 3M. Judging by the blacked-out logos on the Charcoal Air Jordan IX’s seen on Wiz’s b-ball opponent, these are likely the result of a branding/logo issue rather than a exposé on a celeb wearing fake Jordans, because Wiz’s Air Jordan rotation has been one of the more impressive ones we’ve seen. We’ve got some more looks at these blackout Air Jordan VI’s, as well as the full video below, so take a look and let us know what you think.

Ever wonder why the Air Jordan VI seems to be the most frequent Jumpman silhouette selected for these types of custom creations? The recent retro of the white/varsity red colorway made its way to the outlets in fairly big numbers, letting heads like El Cappy pick them up as canvases at discount prices. The resulting wave has seen a ton of well-known combos ported over onto the Air Jordan VI, the latest of which continues the LeBron-centric trend by grabbing the ‘Cannon’ colorway of the Nike LeBron 9. The result stays pretty true to its muse, giving the high energy look a glossier feel thanks to the straightforward leather upper in comparison to LeBron’s teched out sig. Follow us after the jump for the full look at the Air Jordan VI ‘Cannon’ customs from El Cappy and let us know what you think in the comments below.

What’s Kanye West’s favorite shoe? Is it the Air Jordan VI, which we’ve seen him rock effortlessly time and time again on the streets and during live performances, or is it the Nike Air Yeezy, his first ever signature shoe with Nike? It’s likely a toss-up at this point because Kanye’s been wearing Air Jordans long before his Nike deal, but here’s a look at something that could have been – a Nike Air Yeezy with an Air Jordan VI outsole. This sick Yeezy x VI sample, shared by Kanye’s pal Don C, combines Yeezy’s first with Jordan’s first (championship) in a tonal-black set-up with an orange ‘Y’ lace lock, suede uppers, a leather ankle, and patent leather midfoot strap. Remember, these were a sample created at the Innovation Kitchen back in 2009 that was part of a special auction for a charitable cause. What are your thoughts on this Air Yeezy x Air Jordan VI sample as it surfaces again today? Check out the extra angles below and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for the looming release of the Nike Air Yeezy 2, which has been rumored to go down on March 23rd.
