Air Jordan VI “Comedian” Customs By Sekure D

August 1st, 2012 by | 11 comments

air jordan vi comedian 2 Air Jordan VI Comedian Customs By Sekure D

Next up in Sekure D‘s capsule of The Watchmen x Air Jordan Custom creations goes to The Comedian – the superhero who set the entire Watchmen plot in motion. Using the Air Jordan VI as the base, Sekure D captures Comedian’s signature features like the star and red/white stripes on the upper, with the bloody smiley-face and red rose on the heel. The Watchmen Series is seriously unlike any other comic book saga that has developed over the last half-century; the entire series was much shorter than most, and the underlying themes of human morality and world perception have made The Watchmen one of the most analyzed cult-hits in pop culture. Sneaker customizer Sekure D himself calls The Watchmen his favorite, so we can definitely expect him to continue on with his tribute via Air Jordan customs!

Air Jordan VI “Pilot Talk” Customs By El Cappy

air jordan vi pilot talk Air Jordan VI Pilot Talk Customs By El Cappy

The Air Jordan VI returns once again as the focus of yet another custom Air Jordan, but with a concept derived from Curren$y’s ‘Pilot Talk’ album of 2010; it features a album’s artwork of a fighter jet coasting through a sky in a green/black landscape, which is used to colorize the upper. The imagery of the planes hits the heel portion of the shoe, while the leafy graphic captures the forefoot, but it’s the translucent candy green outsole that gives the ‘Pilot Talk’ customs a nice punch of color. More of El Cappy‘s work below, so take a look and let us know what you think.

Nike Air Trainer III + Air Jordan VI Batman Boots

July 19th, 2012 by | 8 comments

nike air trainer iii air jordan vi batman boots 1 Nike Air Trainer III + Air Jordan VI Batman Boots

The success of Christopher Nolan’s modern trilogy has taken Batman’s popularity to new heights and we’ve seen a variety of Dark Knight-inspired colorways over the past several years, and as the world prepares for the worldwide premiere of The Dark Night Rises at midnight, it’s worth looking back to how the superhero saga and the history of sneakers intertwine. The connections between the Beaverton and the Caped Crusader stretch all the way back to the Tim Burton era of Batman films, when a partnership between Nike and Warner Bros. made it possible to combine Batman with the Jumpman. Costume director Bob Ringwood noted that “’80s sportswear isn’t going to fit in with [Batman's] 1940s look,” so Tinker Hatfield did what he does best and ‘laced’ up the Dark Knight with some of the brand’s most impressive footwear releases to that point.

The original Batman x Nike Air Trainer III was born for Burton’s 1989 film, and with the reception from Michael Keaton and his stuntmen being so overwhelmingly positive, Tinker took the sneaker-boot concept to new heights for ’92′s Batman Returns. For that sequel, Michael Jordan’s first championship-winning silhouette was made into an even more aggressive Batman x Air Jordan VI boot, with a shroud-like addition on the forefoot and an attached boot collar that actually played a role in the entire Batman ensemble. It’s particularly interesting to note Nike/Jordan’s immense influence over pop culture (even the early ’90s Batman figures wore AT3s and AJ6s!), and with last year’s release of the Mag 2011, could Jordan Brand take it a step further and release an Air Jordan VI ‘Dark Knight’?. Click through to see both styles, let us know which you’d pick in a fantasy scenario and stick with Sneaker News for more rare Air Jordans.  Photos: NT/DeFY

air jordan golden moments box sneak peek Air Jordan Golden Moments Pack Packaging Sneak Peek

Jordan Brand dropped jaws when it unveiled the first ever two-pair Defining Moments Package in January of 2006. The large rectangular mass featured a slide-out casing that unfolded like a book, with each side covered with a plastic housing that featured His Airness in some his most photogenic moments in 1991 and 1996. Later in August, Black and Gold makes a return in the ‘Golden Moments‘ Package, featuring the Air Jordan VI and VII colored up in the same colorways, but here we have a first look at what sort of neat packaging could be in store; what we do see is a black box, but with a golden crest depicting two more of Michael’s moments. Does the Golden Moments even pertain to the Olympics, or will be re-told two of Jordan’s most classic stories? We’ve got some additional shots courtesy of Fat Joe below, so take a look and stay tuned to Sneaker News for more updates on what could potentially be the Jordan release of the year!

history of flight set ebay 3 Air Jordan History Of Flight Lot on eBay

The debate on “What’s the greatest Air Jordan of all-time” may never end, but we can definitely narrow it down to a select crop from Air Jordan 1 through Air Jordan 2012. The Air Jordan III, IV, V, VI, and XI are definite candidates for owning that prestigious title, and sadly any single model that gets chosen will have its share of detractors, so it might be better to steer clear of an answer altogether! Regardless, that crop of the III, IV, V, VI, and XI is solid from front to back, and when seen together in a cluster (in the History of Flight colorway no less) we’re reminded how lucky we were to have so many awesome sneakers at our disposal. What’s your favorite Air Jordan of the bunch, or is your personal favorite not even pictured here? Let us know and keep an eye on the ongoing bidding war for this great auction from depeche23mode on eBay.
