So it appears that this Air Jordan VIII is a “Suns” homage after all. The Air Jordan VIII “Suns” will release on May 18th, 2013, coming 20 years after Michael Jordan and the Bulls beat out Phoenix in the 1993 NBA finals. Of course giving a colorway to a team that MJ stunted on is nothing new, as just last year we saw Craig Ehlo’s nightmares come true in the form of the “Cavs” colored Air Jordan IV. At long last we’re getting a glimpse at what the Air Jordan VIII will do this year with respect to the brand new colorways. With that being said there’s a bit of debate going on for this particular pair at the moment regarding which NBA squad the color scheme is connected to. Is it another “Knicks” look in the same vein as the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG that started the year off? Or is it a “Suns” one? The latter squad has less to do with the Michael Jordan story, but the palette of that team has been pretty present in the Nike Sportswear range as of late so it’s not too big a leap to imagine that influence bleeding over. See more on the Air Jordan VIII in this black, royal, and orange scheme below and tell us what you think of the pair in the comments.

The recently unveiled Nike Basketball Elite 2.0 Collection presented LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant as three valiant superheros of the NBA, but this idea actually goes back – way back – twenty years ago to 1993. These vintage print-ads from 1993, created to showcase the heroic advantages of Nike’s basketball shoes, placed a spotlight on the brand’s most advanced athletes like Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson, Alonzo Mourning, and Tim Hardaway, with each player sporting a different model of the now-vintage catalog.

An Air Jordan VIII in a classic Knicks colorway sounds like a dream come true, doesn’t it? No need to dream anymore because it appears that a Black/Orange/Blue colorway of the Air Jordan VIII in indeed headed our way in 2013. We’ve pondered the thought of more Air Jordan Retros with Knick tie-ins because of Carmelo’s arrival to the Mecca, and finally we’re seeing that come to light – although this colorway isn’t a true tit-for-tat replica of the orange and royal blue. In fact, the shade of a blue is closer to a navy, and the grey heel panel adds some interesting contrast as well. We’ll have more release info for you as it arrives, so check these out below.
