It’s not that often that the official backstory of an Air Jordan retro release is revealed, so we may never know the true inspiration for this brand new Air Jordan VIII colorway. Suns, Knicks, and even Bobcats connections have been thrown at there to date. We’re going with the first one for now, as the Air Jordan VIII at large is actually relevant to said color combo what with the Suns/Bulls matchup that took place in the 1993 NBA Finals. Get the latest set of images on this “Suns” Air Jordan VIII after the jump and then tell us if you’ve got anymore speculative nicknames you want to slap onto this May release.

The Air Jordan VIII “Playoffs” 2013 retro is coming, you’ve just gotta be patient. Unless you’re Fabolous, who is plenty used to being blessed with early Air Jordan pairs. The Brooklyn rapper is shown here in that very colorway, although it’s unclear as to whether or not the Air Jordan VIII on feet in the image is of the 2007 or 2013 persuasion. Also notable is Fab’s “OG” sweatshirt, a Vandal-A design that’s been more and more popular amongst the sneakerhead set of late. Let us know if you think Fab’s got a new pair of the Air Jordan VIII “Playoffs” on in the comments below.

This Saturday, Jordan Brand will offer up two Air Jordan VIII entrees – only one will be exclusive to the kids menu. This Cool Grey/Violet Force-Electric Yellow colorway (loosely dubbed the “Laney”) will hit stores as a GS-only release, with the youthful mix of Violet and bright Yellow thrown on to the signature mudguard on the upper of the shoe. The Cool Grey base with the matte metallic toe-boxes completes the look for a rather impressive colorway, so our question to our smaller-footed readers is – will you cop these of the OG “Bugs” colorway? Expect these at Jordan Brand retailers on Saturday, or cop now from yellownsxt on eBay.

History of Air Jordan Retro Cards

April 9th, 2013 by | 4 comments

air jordan retro card history History of Air Jordan Retro Cards

The deep stories and events that shadow every Air Jordan in history is what made the Retro such a booming success, and as far back as 1994, Nike made sure that we were reminded of the message behind each design. Since the first Air Jordan Retros in 1994 during MJ’s first retirement to all OG and Retro colorways that hit stores in the late 90′s and 2000′s, a tw0-sided post-card detailing a brief history of the shoe as well as an iconic flashback image of the times came included with the shoes; these cards have been referred to as Retro Cards, and while some may have not given them much though, some sneaker collectors did their best to gather them all. With the Air Jordan Retro Card making a surprising come-back with the upcoming Air Jordan VIII Retros and the possibility of more Retro Cards with future Retro releases, it’s about time we took a look back at every single Retro Card that Nike ever put out – from the first ones in 1994, to the latest ones that came accompanied with a Doernbecher release. Enjoy this throwback piece below and let us know which you’re missing from your set!

air jordan viii bugs retro card Air Jordan VIII Bugs to Include Retro Card

For the newer Jordan fans who have no idea what a Retro Card is: when Air Jordan Retros began rolling out at higher frequencies, Jordan Brand included little postcards that featured a little history on the shoe as well as an iconic photo of MJ in the sneakers. Retro Cards came to a stop in 2009/2010, but the recent news of the Air Jordan VIII “Playoffs” coming packaged with these little collectibles was some pretty good news to the fellas who remembered collecting them and mounting them in frames. It turns out the Air Jordan VIII “Bugs”, which is scheduled for a release this weekend, will also comes with the card, so who knows what’s in store for the future? Let us know if the retro cards hold any significance to you and we’ll let you know what Jordan Brand’s future plans are regarding this throwback feature.

In this age of so much retro goodness, the Air Jordan VIII is the one model that seems to have held out the longest.  CDPs not withstanding, it’s been well over five years since the last pairs hit retail, which is longer than any other Bulls-era Jordans.  The Eights are coming back in a big way starting next Saturday with the ‘Bugs Bunny’ OGs, with several more colorways to follow both new and old, including the pair pictured above.  The ’Playoffs’ Jordan 8 Retro is true to form in black nubuck, and based on these early pics, may even include the first retro cards we’ve seen in quite some time.  Asian retailers have these slated to release sooner than you’d expect given no word yet on the US release date, so click through for more images and be sure to check Sneaker News for updates.
