AIR JORDAN X The Air Jordan X is the tenth sneaker in the Air Jordan legacy series, with the silhouette debuting in 1994. At the time of its release Michael Jordan had stepped away from the game of basketball, making his eventual return in 1995 in the Air Jordan X ‘Chicago’ from the famed city series collection.

Is there any classic sitcom that is safe from custom creator Rocket Boy Nift? This project sees him again grabbing at the Air Jordan X, with Saved by the Bell being the TV paid homage to this time around. Depending on your age, you should be able to recognize the various pastel 90s patterns decorating the sneaker, along with the random pre-clip art era graphics that floated around during the intro. The Air Jordan X of course had an Orland Magic colorway during its initial release, the pair releasing as part of the ‘City Series’ that was spread out over different geographic regions. Coming with some personal touches is this PE version of that colorway, a release crafted for the 13-year NBA veteran Nick Anderson. Historians of the game will recall that Anderson wore this very sneaker during that epic steal straight from the grip of Michael Jordan in Game 1 of the 1995 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals. Things that will never happen: Justin Bieber dressing appropriately, and a release the Air Jordan Rainbow Collection. One of the most talked about sneaker stories of the year was this legacy-wide capsule of fruity-colored Air Jordans, starting from 1, ending at XXV, and leaving us wondering why such a set would exist in the first place. The story goes that these were created as part of the 25th Anniversary tribute for 2010, and since then, these have gone in hiding, popping up at random times – either in the entire set or as lone, stray pairs. It’s to pick out just one favorite character from the mighty roster on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. There’s the main protagonist in Will and his two trusty side-kicks who couldn’t be more polar opposites – the well-behaved and straight-laced Carlton, and the street-bred wisecracking Jazz, Will’s childhood friend that followed him to the West Coast. We showed you a ‘Fresh Prince’ custom a few months back, but Rocket Boy Nift gives Jazz some love with this Air Jordan X ‘Fresh Prince Jazz’ custom; it features a mix of wild colors that Jazz often wore, with the Jumpman logo colored to resemble his outfits. The Air Jordan X enjoyed a pretty decent sized retro treatment this year, with the Air Jordan X ‘Chicago’ at last coming back, its ranks joined by the ‘Stealth’, ‘Old Royal’, and that violet tinged GS pair. With that being said, this group lags a bit behind the 2005 run in terms of number of colorways released, the Air Jordan X in white/varsity red above being one of those. Except that this pair isn’t exactly the same, an unreleased sample featuring a black Jumpman hit on the bottom and white/black checkered set up for the lining. If you caught the first ever Sneaker News: Was It The Shoes? last week, you’d know already that Michael Jordan wore these, the Air Jordan X in the ‘Chicago’ colorway, during the spectacular ‘Double-Nickel’ performance. Fifty-five points against a raucous Madison Square Garden is a feat that only a few can actually pull off (some say Kobe’s 61 is better, but the Knicks were far more competitive on defense in ’95 than they were in ’09), so even though MJ only wore the Chicago X for a short period of time, there’s a reason why the January 2012 Retro was so popular. Did you know that the Air Jordan X ‘Shadow’ was a potential ‘lead-off’ hitter for the Air Jordan X Retro releases that went down in 2005? The ‘Shadow’ did in fact return in 2008 as part of the Jordan Collezione series, but this sample of the original ‘Shadow’ colorway, which doesn’t feature any number stitching on the upper, was actually a Look-See sample dating back to the Fall 2004 season – perhaps making this the first Air Jordan X Retro to precede all the other great OG and new colorways that followed in 2005. The ‘Shadow’, of course, was one of the few Air Jordan X colorways that Michael actually wore, but is this blanked-out version better than the ’45′ original?
