Nike and Jordan Brand’s across-the-board price increases began right at the start of the new year, with Air Jordan Retro releases seeing a $10 price bump from $150 to $160. The December release of the Air Jordan XI will move up $5 to $185, so although the jump in dollars is actually half of what was expected, customers will receive a regular Jordan Brand box opposed to the special slide-out box set aside for the previous three Air Jordan XI releases. Of course, Jordan Brand does has the option to make a last-second audible and give the XI the packaging we all expected, but in the end, do we really ‘wear’ a box? Check out more of the Air Jordan 11 ‘Bred’ below and let us know if the special XI box packaging is something you’re looking forward to.

Air Jordan XI – Black – Varsity Red – White

We recently posted the question: Is the December anchor known as the Air Jordan XI Retro or the child-designed Air Jordan Doernbecher the must-have Retro release of the year? While the XI leads in the ‘iconic’ category by leaps and bounds, the Doernbecher might be a hotter item as the current market value of recent Air Jordan Doernbecher designs demand quite a hefty stack of coin. Regardless, either addition to your collection is one you won’t regret, so for the purists out there, the Doernbecher V might be worth overlooking in order to make room for these classics – the kicks Jordan wore en route to his 4th NBA Title. So what’s your call? Bred XI or Doernbecher V? Photos: sole-awesome

Is Jordan Brand going to rip the rug out from under us one of these years and take away our beloved December Air Jordan XI release? Let’s hope not, as the occasion has sort of been the unofficial end to the sneaker year with every flip of the calender, where folks dip out from family obligations for just a bit to stand in line or fervently F5 their keyboard into the wee hours of the morning. As you oughta know, on tap for this year is the Air Jordan XI ‘Bred’, giving us a break from the icy blue soles of the past couple drops with that varsity red treatment on bottom. We’ve got some extra shots lined up, so click through with us and let us know if you think the ‘Bred’ Air Jordan XI can match the madness of last year’s ‘Concord’ release. Photos: Marquee Sole

So as more information of the upcoming Air Jordan XI in the famed Black/Red colorway unfolds, the chatter surrounding the nature of the  looming release begins to get louder and louder. Starting things out with a ‘bang’ of sorts is when Sneaker News got direct confirmation from Jordan Brand regarding the controversial price-increase of the pinnacle of annual Retros, but the recent development of the shoes hitting stores sans-special box (introduced in 2009 as part of the Space Jam release) has kept the tangential discussions afloat. Today, we have a first detailed viewing of the 2012 version of the Air Jordan XI ‘Bred’, so if you have anything to add to the discussion, fill us in with your thoughts below. Photos: hupu

Air Jordan XI “Bred” 2012

This December, Jordan Brand has plans of releasing the historic “Bred” colorway of the Air Jordan XI – arguably the sneaker with the most ties to the great annals basketball in history. As Michael wore the Black/Red Air Jordan XI to an astounding season during the ’95-’96 season (his first full season since his first retirement), we witnessed that true greatness doesn’t take a break (or an extended one, at least) because much like Jordan did, the ‘Bred’ XI made a return just a few years after it was last seen. Originally part of the December 2008 Collezione release, the Air Jordan XI ‘Bred’ will now release as a single unit, but it appears that the regular Jordan Brand shoe-box will be used with the red plastic shoe trees – that is, unless the Brand has plans of switching it up to the “traditional” slide-out box we were treated to three years running. Additional angles are right ahead, so take a look and stay tuned for more on what may be the must-have Air Jordan Retro of the year. Photos: SH

Air Jordan XI “Bred” 2012 Teaser

It’s a fact that’s been obscured by the massive success of the last three Christmas drops and color trends surrounding each pair’s release (not to mention sixteen-plus years), but back when it entered the race as the third and final OG Air Jordan XI colorway, the prevailing sentiment was that ‘Bred’ was the best of the bunch, if not the single greatest basketball sneaker ever released. The black and red Eleven’s presence lingered longer than either of the white styles and it still ranks among the very best of all time, even if the culture shock we felt first seeing its patent leather mudguard has been adjusted by time and a renewed appreciation for some of Tinker Hatfield’s other masterpieces. And just like dudes could be seen wearing their ’96s toward the end of that decade, 2008′s Countdown Pack (not coincidentally, the most desired duo of the entire Collezione) is still a go-to style when sneakerheads dress to impress. The demand for this Christmas 2012 ‘Bred’ Air Jordan XI Retro figures to be in line with each of the previous releases, so be sure and stick with Sneaker News for updates and let us know if there’s anything on the horizon that has you equally excited. Looks like we’ve got a tight battle for best kicks of the last two nights! Monta Ellis went on repeat mode, but kept it fiery with the Air Jordan XI ‘Bred’, but up-and-comer Delonte West caught our attention by wearing the Nike Air Flight One in the ‘Orlando’ colorway. Kendrick Perkins’ Air Jordan X ‘Chicago’ deserves some attention, as does Gilbert Arenas’ back-to-back Air Jordan showing of the Old Royal X and the Air Jordan IX ‘For The Love Of The Game’. A blue-based jersey seems to follow Gilbert wherever he lands, but that’s only good news because we know what he’s capable of putting out when rocking those colors! Check out the best sneakers from the last two nights and let us know who takes the cake! via espn
