AIR JORDAN XI CONCORD The Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ is a colorway of the eleventh Air Jordan sneaker so named for the color featured on the tongue area Jumpman and outsole of the shoe. The Air Jordan XI Concord was originally released in 1995, with subsequent retros in 2000 and 2011. While all of the original Air Jordan XI’s remain among the most coveted as far as the Air Jordan line at large is concerned, the ‘Concord’ is held in highest regard by many and has been called the greatest sneaker of all time.

The Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ was the unrivaled juggernaut drop of the 2011 holiday sneaker rush, and while most sneakerheads were focused on the release a few days back, this week also a brought a look at two low-cut versions of the popular model that stirred up some buzz of their own. One of the XI Lows that was previewed featured a traditional ‘Concord‘ color scheme, while the other also stuck to a tried and true formula with a tasty ‘Bred‘ version. Not much was known about the potential future of the samples, but now a little more light has been shed, along with this look at some interesting special edition versions of the shoes.
NikeTalk member, NikeDealer was lucky enough to be on the scene when two mysterious Jordan boxes showed up to the house of well-known celebrity sneakerhead, Chi McBride. The contents of the standard issue JB boxes were anything but standard, as a look inside revealed two pairs of the upcoming 2012 Air Jordan XI Lows, specially customized by the package’s senders, Tinker Hatfield and Mark Smith. Both pairs feature gold laminate graphics on the tongues displaying each of Michael Jordan’s six championship rings, along with some Bin23-ish wooden inserts inside the shoes. The six rings detailing will not appear when these go to retail, but you can probably expect to see the leather uppers replacing the usual XI mesh and the red lining instead of black on the Bred pair. No word yet on when in 2012 these will drop, but for now, take a look at Chi’s special editions and let us know what you think.

Earlier today, Sneaker News detailed some of the release madness that surrounded the midnight drops of the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’. We know one spot did it right – the recently opened Nike Portland. Wristbands were given out the day prior and a special event at 7 AM was held for those who purchased the shoes; Air Jordan XIs were on display (OG and Retro Concords, Retro+ colorways like the ‘Snakeskin’) as was a rare sketch drawing of the Air Jordan XI. Tinker Hatfield, the designer of the massive cultural fashion phenomenon, was on hand to autograph Concord XI boxes for the event’s attendees. We’ve got some shots from the event from oregonlive and nikeblog so take a look at this great even and if you haven’t copped your Concords yet, pick up a pair now on eBay.

Nikestore cleared out of its Adult and Kids stock in an hour. Thousands upon thousands of eager sneakerheads camped out all across the nation. Ordering from other online retailers may have resulted in the dreadful realization that “your session has timed out”, which was immediately followed by the worry of whether your order went through or not. Perhaps this was all expected for the release of the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’, which was easily the grandest, most anticipated, and most talked-about mass sneaker release of 2011 or perhaps the entire decade. It’s all fun and games – camping out with your fellow sneaker pals for hours, chatting about kicks and making new friends. Then, the unfortunate news of a rumored death (now proven false) in the Washington D.C. area related to the Concords forced us to revisit a time when footwear-related crimes were a serious issue in certain areas – even Sports Illustrated explored one of the most heinous acts of sneaker-robbery when in 1989, a 15-year-old was murdered, found in the woods, all for his Air Jordans. Riots, fights, and attempts to tear store-fronts down were reported in other cities, and nationwide news outlets made the Concord a story worth covering.
Sneaker releases like the Concord 11 isn’t the fuel, it’s the engine. Over the last four Decembers, the Air Jordan XI has been the marquee sneaker of the year, preceded by numerous other footwear releases during the 11 months and three weeks prior, and as the year slowly progresses, the typical sneakerhead’s focus reconfigures and thought processes evolve from “I’ll cop these now, but gotta have the Concords at the end of the year!” to “I need to save, need my Concords!”. The actual release may last under an hour, but the process actually spans an entire year and by January 1st, the Concord XI will have been ‘old news’ and the next December release will be the biggest discussion of the year – again. For now, check out a recap of the Air Jordan 11 Concord releases from some notable spots, and let us know how you copped your Concords. If you missed out, go the safer route and hit up eBay. How could the retro release of the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ possibly get better? Well, how about encasing it in an incredible black wooden collector’s case complete with a large gold Jumpman etched into the boxtop? That’s exactly what arrived today, bringing some early holiday delight along with it. Inside the blacked-out box, a numbered seal indicates “1 of 23″, with a gold MJ thumb print to really make things official. The box’s first layer features a framed varsity-style Jumpman hoodie, lifting up to reveal the main event within – a crispy pair of 2011 Concords with the added bonus of a gold Jumpman-embroidered black towel, perfect for wiping down the patent leather once the shoes go into rotation. Unfortunately, this limited edition Holiday 2011 Pack will not be available for retail, but you can at least get a good look after the jump. Keep an eye out for your own pair of Air Jordan XI Concords this Friday, December 23rd when these undisputed classics make their long-awaited return to store shelves. Much thanks to the Jordan Brand family for dropping this down the chimney.

The biggest news of the NBA offseason leading up to the 2011-12 NBA Season was the big trade that sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers. Clearly, Jordan Brand had all of its corners covered as Chris Paul wore a sick new Red/White colorway of the Jordan CP3.V during the Clippers’ Media Day; perhaps originally intended as a 2012 NBA All-Star Game colorway, the vibrant red is a perfect match for CP3′s newest team colors. We also showed you CP3 walking into the Clippers’ facility wearing the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ yesterday, but we have some extra shots of that below as well. Check out CP3′s newest colorway of his fifth signature shoe below and let us know: Who is the better NBA team in Los Angeles – the Lakers or the Clippers? via Yahoo!.
