But the list of handicapped star athletes really goes on and on, and while Jordan wasn’t the only one to climb triumphantly over an injury, he did it in such style that it transcends epic playoff game performances.

“No autographs for ball boys after the game if I don’t get my applesauce.”

It’s no “Spectacular move . . . ” but this quote does indeed represent one of the finest NBA Finals moments from Michael Jordan’s storybook career. Mike had just finished fighting off illness in a heroic effort that saw the Chicago Bulls seize control of the 1997 championship series, and he really needed some sustenance. One young man came through for MJ and His Airness was so grateful, he saw to it that the game used ‘Flu Game’ Air Jordan XII would end up in the hands of that conscientious ball boy. Sixteen years later, the pair is being put up for auction, complete with Jordan’s signature with the bidding to begin on Monday, November 18th. They’ll start at $5000, and given how exceptionally rare and historically significant this size 13 pair is, how much do you predict they’ll top out at? Let us know after you’ve looked them over after the jump, then get your account in order and submit a bid with Grey Flannel Auctions.

There are ‘Flu Games’ and then there’s the ’Flu Game’.  That’s how it goes with the Air Jordan XII, which in 2009 released in a revamped nubuck tribute to the original all-leather 1997 release.  It was that OG in which Michael Jordan miraculously fought off food poisoning to score 38 and crush the state of Utah — except maybe one of the Jazz’s ball boys.  The hardworking young man in question was supremely lucky to have been bequeathed the autographed, game worn pair from the ’97 Finals Game 5, which he promptly placed into a safe deposit box.  Sixteen years later, they’ve been unearthed and are set to be included in a Grey Flannel Auction scheduled to wrap up on December 11th of this year.  Grey Flannel expects these to be the top seller on that block, and the really interesting thing will be where these rank as far as most valued MJ memorabilia of all time.  Sneaker News will keep you posted with updates as more details come into focus, and for now, you can see the infamous kicks in question and let us know how much you think they’re worth.
