Did this pop starlet pick up an Air Jordan habit from her old hubby? These recent photos seem to suggest so, with Rihanna making a quick trip out to New York for the Time 100 Gala, hitting the streets during her downtime in the the Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’ retro (fresh out of the box with the hangtags on and everything) that sparked many a lineup just last weekend. The Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’ has Nike on red alert, as it will be the first sneaker release to implement the Twitter RSVP system in preparation of the Saturday release. While nobody can be sure whether or not the Playoffs will cause a ‘campout’ of any kind, it’s good to see that Nike has taken preventative measures – at least concerning its own retail spots. Campout or not, the Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’ is one of the best Air Jordan Retro releases of the year as it’s been a complete eight years since we were last given the opportunity to cop these from a retail spot. After experiencing the ‘South Beach’ Slide craze, will this ‘Playoffs’-inspired edition of the Jordan Hydro V Premier follow suit? Nike will officially launch its Twitter RSVP release system to coincide with this Saturday’s release of the Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’. The ‘Twitter RSVP’ system only applies to the in-store releases of its 24 Nike retail locations and will not affect the online release that is currently scheduled for Friday at midnight EST (technically Saturday morning). It is likely that Nike will reserve the Twitter RSVP to big-ticket items such as Air Jordan Retro releases, high-profile Nike Sportswear releases (Foamposites), and other Nike Basketball releases such as the upcoming Elite collection. To address another concerns, you will indeed be able to send a Direct Message to the Nike Twitter handles, as they are Verified and don’t need to be following you in order for a DM to be sent. Tinker Hatfield pays an incredible amount of detail with his footwear designs, so let’s take a look at some of exciting details of the Air Jordan XII as we gear up for this Saturday’s release of the ‘Playoffs’ colorway. Inspired by the land of the Rising Sun, Tinker placed pronounced grooves on the upper with stitches to create that ‘Rising Sun’ effect. Tinker further stylized the Air Jordan XII, which was also inspired by a 19th century woman’s dress boot, but placed an embossed lizard-skin material at the mudguard, which also spilled to the forefoot portion of the midsole. Additional accents like the silver-plated lace-rings on the upper gave the shoe a bit of a luxurious touch, while the visible carbon fiber plated on the outsole carried on the design function that first arrived with its predecessor – the Air Jordan XI. Finishing off the design was a plethora of Jordan insignia around the shoe, like the Jumpman stamped at the toe and the ’23′ at the ‘bumper’ of the heel. April has been quiet in the Jordan Retro front, but this one release is strong enough to stand on its own and carry a month’s worth of sneaker releases. Dropping next Saturday at Jordan Brand retailers is the Air Jordan XII commonly referred to as the ‘Playoffs’, kicking off a string of Air Jordan XII releases like the Cool Grey, Obsidian, an the GS-exclusive Siren Red. Like the original, it features tumbled leather construction on the upper with the white pebbled-leather mudguard, with the trademark TWO3 stitched on the tongue. These are without a doubt one of the best Retro releases of the year – must-cop for those who have the OG or the ’04 Retro (the Jumpman badge on the midsole is getting a bit too yellow, no?). Sneaker News started this week with a look at Michael Jordan’s golf shoes from his recently concluded celebrity invitational tournament, their appearance just on this side of a new month underlining the fact that back when MJ made this style famous, April was no time for goofing around on the golf course. April in the NBA means the end of the regular season and beginning of the postseason bracket, and we’re reminded of how much things have changed in the league since shoes like the Air Jordan XII Retro ‘Playoffs’ were tantamount to another Chicago Bulls title.
