Pretty much any way you slice it, 2012 is set to be another jam-packed year for Air Jordan retros. A pair of Air Jordan IV’s right around the corner, the Olympic VI’s later on down the line, XI’s popping up in the low version with the patent intact, you get the picture. And since all that is quite a bit to keep track of we want to make sure you don’t miss anything along the way, like the upcoming retro of the Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’. A beauty of a black and white design from the tail end of the Tinker years, the retro is looking right with the black leather towards the top taking on some nice textures for a buttery look. The latest pair shown here is the kids version, so peep the pics after the jump and let us know if you’ll be lacing up the youngin’s in these. As always, stick with Sneaker News for more info on the April release of the Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’. via SL

It’s crazy to think that just twenty-five some odd games into the NBA season, we’re already only two months away from the Playoffs. And that goes double because not only will the Association’s postseason be starting on April 28th, but sometime during that month, we’ll also be revisiting a tournament run that culminated in the fifth title in seven years for what remains the league’s second-best team (regular season record-wise) of all time. The Air Jordan 12 Retro ‘Playoffs’ is like opening a time capsule from spring 1997, the kind of strong nostalgia juxtaposed against a timeless design that emphasizes how perfect this Tinker Hatfield effort really is. Jordan Brand couldn’t have picked a better model to release during an early 2012 that’s trending hard toward simple black and/or white designs, so now we’re just left waiting for that exact release date. Stick with Sneaker News to find out when that’ll be, and have a look at some new images in the meantime. via TTB

We’ll spare you the Jim Mora quote (already used it for the XIIIs), but we are indeed talking about ‘playoffs’ here on Sneaker News. One of the great understated additions to the Air Jordan Legacy will see its first retro run since 2004, and thanks to the complete lack of tweaks, they are indeed who we thought they were. The Air Jordan XII Retro ‘Playoffs’ reminds us of a time when Michael was play[ing] to win the game[s] leading up to his fifth NBA Championship ring, an achievement culminated in June 1997 when he hoisted the Larry O’Brien trophy at United Center rocking this very pair. You might have also seen them on the cover of NBA 2K10, so especially for younger sneakerheads who won’t remember that these effectively booted the also-upcoming OG ‘Obsidian’ AJ12 from its expected place as the ’97 All-Star shoe, these help acquaint the new generation with the period of unparalleled excellence that makes MJ most people’s GOAT. Click through so you can examine the subtle grandeur of this Tinker Hatfield masterpiece and stick with Sneaker News for the exact US release date. via in52

LIV nightclub was the place to be in Miami over the past weekend as a number of hip-hop megastars collided to perform live for legendary Bad Boy producer DJ Stevie J’s birthday. At the event was Lil’ Wayne, Fabolous, Trey Songz, Wiz Khalifa, Ne-Yo, Dr. Dre, Birdman, and many more, but the focus of this feature is on the first three, who caught our attention with their not-yet-released Air Jordans. Lil’ Wayne kicked things off with the Air Jordan XII ‘Playoff’ (releasing in April), followed by Fabolous and his Air Jordan IV ‘Military’ (a June release). Trey Songz kept things a bit more current with the Jordan Spiz’ike ‘Bordeaux’, which will hit stores this Saturday. Check out all three hip-hop sneakerheads after the jump and let us know whose kicks you liked best! via worldredeye

Eight years. That’s the last time the Air Jordan XII in the Black/White-True Red colorway hit stores, and it can be argued that the ‘Playoffs’ XII is the most sought-after among the Air Jordan XII originals (but if you disagree, let us know in the comments section below). These are currently slated for a release this April, but Sneaker News brings you another look at certified heaters months in advance; for those unfamiliar with the history behind the Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’, it’s the shoe that Michael wore during the Home games of the 1997 Playoffs as well as the 1997 All-Star Game (he tallied the ASG’s first-ever triple-double in these). Check out some of the angles below and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for more exclusive peeks into 2012′s hottest upcoming releases.

Michael will tell you that there certainly is no place like ‘Home’. During the 1997 NBA Playoffs, Michael Jordan wore this colorway of the Air Jordan XII during the ‘Home’ games, and it only took him two games for Michael to get settled in – by dropping a double-nickel against the Washington Bullets (now Wizards). His Game 2 performance in the 1st round of the ’97 Playoffs is one of the most overlooked performances of his career, but youngsters Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, and Calbert Cheaney probably remember that game as well as any other. The Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’ has already been confirmed for an April 2012 release, which is rather fitting because the Game 2 double-nickel happened on April 27th, 1997. We’ve got a few new angles for you below, so take a look and let us know if these are a must-have for you. via SH.

It would be tough to distinguish one Air Jordan from another without the classification system we have in place today, but thanks to these easy terms like ‘Playoffs’, one can quickly become an expert on all the taxonomic ranks in the Air Jordan kingdom. Not even the most colored Air Jordan historian could pinpoint when and where this system was put into place, but let’s just be glad it exists! This particular Air Jordan XII colorway has adopted the ‘Playoffs’ moniker because Michael wore these during the Home Playoff games of the 1997 Playoffs; remember MJ posterizing Dikembe Mutumbo and introducing to the world his new standing fist-pump celebration after sinking a game-winner in Game 1 of the Finals? Yeah, he did that in these. We get to re-live those moments when the Playoff XII hits stores this April (the first time since 2004), so check out these new photos below and let us know where this ‘Playoff’ coloway ranks among your all-time favorites. via kickz-lab.
