AIR JORDAN XIV The Air Jordan XIV originally released in 1998, boasting a Ferrari influenced design that served as an homage to Michael Jordan’s love for motorsports. The most beloved colorway of this late-era Tinker Hatfield model was the ‘Last Shot’, a black and red pair made famous by MJ during that iconic moment where he hit the winning shot in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals to win the Championship; said shot would be his last as a Chicago Bull.

AIR JORDAN LOW WEEK PART 2
Continuing this week’s Classics Revisited focus on low-top Jays is one of the originals – the Varsity Royal/Black-White colorway of the Air Jordan XIV Low. The Air Jordan XIV has significance for a variety of reasons; for one, it’s the last Air Jordan model Michael wore as a Chicago Bull, and it was the model the first continued the low-top trend that was re-started with the Air Jordan XIII (that is, if you don’t count the Air Jordan XI IE Low as a true low-top). The sporty colorway matched the design of the XIV, which was inspired by one of Michael’s Ferrari super-cars, but it later adopted the ‘Laney’ nickname thanks to an Air Jordan V Retro of 2000 that donned a similar colorway. Of course, the Blue/Yellow is an instant nod to Michael Jordan’s high school alma mater, making this low-top XIV an unofficial ‘Laney’ colorway.

There are a handful of Air Jordan designs from the initial Tinker Hatfield era that have had their inspiration well publicized, their overall form emulating some pretty far flung objects from lawnmowers to sports cars. The Air Jordan XIV was one of those, its shape derived from the luxurious Ferrari 550 M. This process has officially come full circle at this point, with a recent Jordan Brand event out in China featuring a Ferrari that in turn took some cues from the Air Jordan XIV, sporting a very ‘Last Shot’ looking colorway and some Jumpman touches sprinkled about. Stay with us after the jump to check out the design and let us if you think this is an upgrade to the Ferrari shown.

The Air Jordan XIV is one of the Jordan Brand legacy series silhouettes that gets toyed with the most as far as in-house alterations. There’s the seamless and the nearly seamless version, both of which do away with the curvy lines on the upper in favor of a cleaner slate. This Air Jordan XIV Low is an example of the latter, letting the leather shine to a greater extent on the white/columbia blue colorway. Do you prefer this approach or does the Air Jordan XIV just not do it for you without those perforated lines sliding across the upper? Let us know in the comments and check out your chance to own this unreleased Air Jordan XIV sample now from oregonsole on eBay.

The ‘Light Graphite’ release of the Air Jordan XIV last Holiday 2011 season could’ve been much different than expected – just peep this unreleased sample of the Air Jordan XIV here. While the sample features the same grey upper, the outsole is a mix of black and white, which could be viewed as a better fit considering the Air Jordan XIV’s design roots in Michael’s Ferrari. In fact, the outsole and heel of the Air Jordan XIV were originally scribed to mimic a racing tire – a concept only emphasized when black rubber outsoles are used – but the switch to White isn’t much to scoff at. Another interesting note is that the sample tag lining the interior of the shoe designates this a ‘Collezione’ sample; did Jordan Brand pass on another Collezione-style release in 2011? We’ve got a gallery of images below so check out the unreleased Air Jordan sample below and see what the final selling price was by hitting up the auction from oregonsole on eBay.

The UNC Tar Heels’ colors will forever be wrapped up in the Michael Jordan legacy, with no small number of Air Jordan models borrowing the blue and white pairing. When the Air Jordan XIV made its original retail run there was one such pair, albeit a low version rather than the standard silhoutte. The only folks who did get to enjoy them in true mid form were players on the UNC b-ball squad that year, with this Air Jordan XIV apparently being handed out as one of the perks that comes with playing for MJ’s alma mater (and later popping up at random retail spots like Eastbay). The pair also shifts the colors a little bit, swapping out the Columbia blue of the low’s for the obviously more appropriate Carolina blue. Click through to check out the rare Air Jordan XIV in white/black-Carolina blue and bid on this pair now from k1ckscr3w19 on eBay.

For sneakerheads, packing for a vacation or an extended tour requires an elite level of tetris-like luggage-stuffing ability. Aside from selecting what you plan on wearing, fitting ‘em inside a suitcase without squishing ‘em into flip-flops is always a concern, so take a page out of Theophilus London‘s book; he’s currently on tour and needs to keep his sneaker rotation fresh and diverse, and what he shows off here (Air Yeezy 2s, Chicago X, Grape V, Last Shot XIVs, and his Del Toro collab) proves that he’s serious about his sneaker game. Which of the notable sneakers do you own in your own collection?
