The Air Jordan XVI will, for the time being, remain one of those sneakers that you just had to be there for the first round to get your hands on. Is it possible that such late era Air Jordan models will become a new status symbol of sorts, a way of showing you were around before the current retro boom? It’s definitely getting harder to standard with those OG colorways from 1-XIII given the frequency with which Jordan Brand is currently trotting them out. Stay with us after the jump to see a full gallery on an unreleased Air Jordan XVI Low from the scrapped 2012 retro treatment in white and varsity red and then take a look at the price tag put on by oregonsole on eBay.

Another look at an unreleased newbie from thee Air Jordan XVI Retro that never was is upon us – this low-top colorway of Dark Grey/Metallic Silver-Stealth-White. We first showed you the ‘Stealth’ colorway almost a month ago, but this closer viewing reveals some interesting details, like the wrinkled grey material seen in the Wolf Grey V and breathable mesh material used to construct the inner bootie. It’s strange that the entire Retro cycle of the XVI was nipped at the bud, but there’s no reason to think that an XVI re-issue won’t happen in the future. This particular sample is reported to be a release in late 2013/early 2014, but we’ll keep you updated on any updates regarding a wider Air Jordan XVI Retro.

It appears that the Air Jordan XVI isn’t coming back, at least not for the time being. And while you can mourn the fact that this sneaker isn’t getting a retro treatment, look on the bright side-at least we get to see what the folks at Jordan Brand were cooking up for the re-issue. Shown here is an Air Jordan XVI Low that was sampled up for Fall 2012, the upper sporting a stealthy look whose crinkled nubuck kinda looks an echo of the Air Jordan V ‘Wolf Grey’. Continue reading for extra angles on the Air Jordan XVI Low sample and keep in the mind that you can still own a pair, all you gotta do is check out the auction from oregonsole on eBay.

To start the NBA Season, Ray Allen whipped out a jaw-dropping PE colorway of the Air Jordan XVI, which immediately sparked discussions of a possible Air Jordan XVI Retro in the near future. This latest bit of funky news might add more verity to that notion as we get a look at an unreleased Air Jordan XVI Low that was originally destined for a Fall 2012 release. Coincidentally, the Air Jordan XVI Low in the original Black/Metallic Silver was the last Air Jordan XVI to release during the original run, and perhaps somewhere during the product line discussions, this 2012 Retro was shelved. Thoughts on Jordan Brand scrapping a release and the potential wide-release return in 2013? We’d like to hear your opinion on the XVI so chime in and check out the full listing from oregonsole on eBay.
