After the entire NBA passed on his services, we were sure we saw the last of Allen Iverson in the NBA. However, a momentous return to Philadelphia during the Sixers’ recent run in the 2012 Playoffs and Iverson’s involvement in the re-release of the Reebok Question as ‘The Answer’ back in the limelight once again. Reebok’s plan of re-introducing the Reebok Answer line begins with the Answer IV; like we attribute Michael Jordan’s shoes to his own special occasions, NBA fans of the immediate post-MJ era will liken the Answer IV to that surprising 2001 NBA Finals, when the heavily unfavored Philadelphia 76ers defeated the juggernaut Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1. Allen I poured in 48 points (with the two most emphatic ones coming over a pesky Tyronn Lue) while wearing the White/Black colorway of the Answer IV, and you can relive that moment in ‘Answer’ history by copping the IVs right now at Packer Shoes ahead of the August 10th release date. A detailed gallery with a video of Iverson’s ‘Step’ over Lue is below, so take a look and cop your Answers now!

The Reebok Answer IV in white/black will is set to arrive next Friday, August 10th, delivering a slice of basketball history that may be even harder to swallow for the perpetrated player than those Craig Ehlo specials were earlier in the year. The move in question is AI’s crossing of former LA Laker Tyronn Lue in the 2001 NBA Finals, wherein Iverson stepped right over Lue after making the move and the subsequent shot to add on a little exclamation point (all while wearing this very sneaker). Click through with us to check out a huge gallery of the Reebok Answer IV and let us know if you’re feeling this upcoming Reebok retro in the comments below, and stay tuned for the release date set for August 10th.

Just yesterday we delivered the word that the Reebok Answer IV retro is indeed right around the corner, with the sneaker set to hit stores a little over a week from now on August 10th. The pair comes as the second awesome Reebok retro in the AI line for this year, following up the return of the OG colored Reebok Question with the silhouette worn by Iverson during his 2001 MVP season that took him all the way to the NBA Finals with the 76ers. Today we’ve got a little more insight into how the release will go down as news of the original white and red colorway will also be joining the ranks of that black and white. Click through with us to check out the full shots and let us know which pair you’re looking forward to more, and we’ll keep you updated on the release date of the White/Red colorway.

The ‘Reebok Back’ campaign’s main course of action is to go ‘back’ in time and re-issue some of its late great models, and after receiving a nice preview of what Reebok has planned for 2012-2013, it appears that the sneakerhead community is ready for a Reebok Classics renaissance. One of the models of that 2012-2013 preview was the Reebok Answer IV, which some consider to be one of the best Answer models of the entire Allen Iverson lineage; it appears that the wait won’t be as long as we originally anticipated, as TheDonDrew confirms a release date for the Answer IV for August 10th at Reebok retailers like FinishLine. Will you follow up your Question Mid pick-up by copping the Answer IV? The White/Black colorway is confirmed for a return on 8/10 so check back with us for more updates on Reebok’s retro push.

The Olympic Games have served as a serviceable spotlight for athletic companies to show off their best products in each sport, and sometimes it can get quite ugly. Looking back to the ’92 Games when Nike and Reebok had their lengthy battle, it’s clear that companies were fighting for that medal podium spotlight. Here in 2012, Nike’s got the Olympics on lock, but that wasn’t the case before; along with Nike and Jordan, brands like adidas, Reebok, Converse (prior to the merger), and even Ewing joined the Olympic-inspired sneaker festivities, and a sneaker event out in Hong Kong called Kickoff Summer Fun showcased some of the best in history (bet you’ll be surprised at some of what’s found below). Enjoy this throwback gallery of red, white, and blue sneakers and let us know which is your personal favorite! Photos: kenlu

Imagine if Nike Sportswear hadn’t issued hardly any of its 1990s classics, then suddenly, BAM! — a torrent of Jordans, Air Maxes and signatures that’d leave longsuffering sneakerheads in tears. That’s kind of like what’s going on right now under Swizz Beatz‘ supervision at Reebok, as the Vector brand is finally bringing back some of its most memorable silos of the past two decades. It started last year with the Shawn Kemp-inspired Kamikaze III, a descendent of the Reebok Kamikaze II that’s now getting a proper retro treatment along with a couple of Allen Iverson’s signatures. AI’s ‘Pearlized Red’ Question is on display with the OG blue colorup soon to follow, which will be joined by the Answer IV in one of that model’s many (many) first run styles. And on the running/training side of things, we’re about to be blessed with Emmitt Smith’s EM22 and the original DMX Run (suggesting a future release for it’s DMX-debuting counterpart, the Answer I?). Have a peek at Reebok’s upcoming Retro Sport collection after the jump, let us know which of these classics you’re most excited to own and if there’s another RBK model you’d like to see return (Swizz promises “Shaqs also” soon), and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for release info.

During an extended inset chat with Lisa Salters that to everyone outside of the Boston area was likely the most emotionally engaging aspect of what has been to this point the less interesting Eastern Conference semifinal, 76ers legend Allen Iverson struggled to convey the importance of his connection to Philadelphia’s fans. AI avoided directly contradicting Kevin Garnett’s ‘fairweather’ comment and stuck to the facts, confessing that he nearly teared up while walking wobbly legged off the court after presenting the game ball in Wednesday night’s Sixers win. It’s difficult to put into words just how much of a difference the distance north on I-95 made in his life, but there is indeed an iconic sneaker synonymous with Iverson‘s memorable first season.
A good portion of rookie AI’s first campaign was played in this red-toed colorway of the Reebok Question, a sneaker that’s been around the block and back again, issued in a variety of retro and team-oriented renditions in the sixteen years since its debut. We got a similar drop back in 2009, but pearly toed pairs Iverson and Swizz Beatz have recently been spotted rocking are truer OGs than those suede-tipped joints. The timing of the May 25th release of one of the greatest non-Nike/Jordan basketball signatures now seems utterly magical with AI’s presence boosting the 76ers to a seventh and deciding game in Beantown the following day; let us know your plans to cop along with your take on which is more likely: a Philly win or an Iverson NBA comeback? Reebok certainly is bringing out the big guns this year, with the much anticipated return of the OG white/red Reebok Question colorway getting a little boost from an apparent revival of the Shaq line as well. Unfortunately we’ll have to wait for a release date on the latter, but as far as the Allen Iverson lineup, that one is right around the corner. The good news keeps coming as we now learn that the 2012 Question re-release will be extending out to the junior and female sneaker enthusiasts as well, with kids sizes available for those who want to do the history on this classic b-ball design from the Vector Brand. Hit the jump for more photos and be on the lookout for the launch of the Question next Friday, May 25th at select Reebok retailers like Packer Shoes, who already has a countdown ticking down on their site.
