Ronnie Fieg has a lot of projects in the works, with that recent ‘essentials’ tossing up a sneak peek at a good number of his upcoming sneaker releases. Among said releases will be the Asics Gel Lyte III ‘Eclipse’ (or ‘Leathertoe’ to flip the nomenclature of one his previous works), featuring navy nubuck on the back end and some slick black leather up front. The latest feature is on Kith’s own Ronnie Fieg, a man who has been hard at work cooking up no small number of sneaker collabs with a handful of different brands. There are some tried and true rules when it comes to surviving a zombie attack: do your cardio, trust the buddy system and know your way out come to mind, but making a sneaker is not one of them. Then again, Ronnie Fieg didn’t follow that whole “Don’t be a hero” rule, either, and that turned out pretty well for him, and now a new collaboration with Asics capitalizes on an untouched theme to give some extra depth to what’s arguably the quintessential sneaker colorway. The Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III ’Eclipse’ sounds like it’s a Twilight sendup, comes to us courtesy of a living dead promo photo and looks to be a premium makeup with unavoidable connections to the epic Air Jordan Legacy. How many times have the worlds of collectible sneakers and imaginary robot warriors collided before? Probably more than you think. Nike has done the Transformers thing a ton of times, in turn inspiring custom creators to do the same, with folks eventually taking things to the next logical level and turning the sneaks into actual mini robots. That’s the calling card of TransShoe Formers, the latest big name in oddball sneaker appropriations who cuts up models and turns them into these Gundam style figurines.
