The Euros get an Asics runner right…again. For Slam Jam, this follow-up to their 2010 project brings in another array of in-your-face punchy colorblocking, pairing Buttercup Lime with a bright Yellow in an exciting package. A heavy focus is on materials once again; perforated premium leather, reflective Asics stripes, and a contrasting midsole sprayed with a noteworthy silver touch brings this design together for one of the most memorable Asics collaborations of the year. When the latest photos of this Asics Gel Lyte III sporting a familiar ‘Aqua’ color up arrived last week they unfortunately carried with them the notion that it might be yet another of Gel styles sequestered to the non-US regions of the world. Sure 2012 has seen an increase in US availability for Asics classics to some extent but it’s still hard not to be uneasy whenever a new pair surfaces and you’re immediately calculating in your head how much it will take to get them across the Atlantic. Fear not though, as at least one stateside store is carrying the black and purple combo. Around the turn of the year, tradeshow previews depicted a couple of Asics classic runners with colorways reminiscent of the legendary purple-and-teal Air Jordan Legacy combos ‘Grape’ and ‘Aqua’. A third entered the mix this summer when Bait unveiled their ‘Rings Pack’, and now we come full circle with a new Asics Gel Lyte III for which we’ve been waiting over eight months. This ‘Aqua’ colorup is a strong throwback to the early ’90s and should be arriving at retailers like Overkill starting next Saturday, September 1st, so have a closer look below and let us know how they compare to all the high-profile collabo GL3s we’ve seen in recent months.

Thanks to the many great releases and Ronnie Fieg collaborations, any headline with ‘Asics’ tends to grab attention rather easily. This great colorway of the Asics Gel Lyte III certainly deserves the spotlight, but we’d like to get the attention of the female readers because this pair right is actually a women’s release! The light blue and lime tones is very much rockable by men, but for the ladies out there who are crazy about Asics, this could be the start of a wider selection of exclusive drops. European retailer afew has ‘a few’ pairs up for grabs right now so check out this women-specific release of the Gel Lyte III and let us know what you think of the colorway.

While a few of the other big name sneaker brands have been chomping at the bit with the Olympic theme all summer Asics has been a bit more patient, just now rolling out those pairs crafted for the Netherlands squads and the ‘Olympic Ring Pack’ in conjunction with BAIT shown here. The extensive group features the likes of the Asics GT-II, the Asics Gel Saga, and of course the Asics Gel Lyte III, all of them caught up in a swath of colors collectively encompassing that of the five rings Olympic logo. Does anybody remember that awesome black/caviar pair of Asics Gel Lyte III’s that arrived towards the beginning of 2012? Euro spots pretty much had the monopoly on them and heads stateside had to scramble to lock down a pair. Will we see a similar fate with this infrared sporting pair? It can certainly match the caviar in terms of energy, sliding in that burning pink shade onto the laces and the lining just under, as well as pushing some extra color to the outsole.
