While Bart Simpson had us believing that the toilets in Australia always flushed opposite to our own here in the US, it’s clear that Aussie sneakerheads share the same passion for kicks as American collectors. Sneaker Freaker’s home country has a smaller population which means relatively fewer retailers across the Outback, yet one of them managed to get the latest collaborative drop from Barcelona’s standout boutique a few weeks earlier than the expected release date. The 24 Kilates x Asics Gel Saga was slated for a late April drop but Laced in Brisbane already sold out their stock before word could spread past Sydney. The next stop on the Asics x Ronnie Fieg express represents a lap back around as the ‘Super Red 2′ GT-II reprises a theme he utilized on the Gel Lyte III back in 2009. But before we arrive at those red suede classics, Fieg’s retail spot in New York has just received a shipment of Asics classics that were previously only available in Europe. The Cordura-constructed ‘Yin & Yang’ Asics Gel Lyte III go for that black and/or white look that’s been killing it this spring, a GT-II opts for equal simplicity but navy instead of black, and all this simple styling leaves the neon-accented Gel Sagas to steal the show. The Europe collaborations of the Asics Gel Saga continues with Spain’s 24 Kilates, as featured on the cover of the Sneaker Freaker Spain Issue 15. It features a hunter green upper paired with red on the heel and tongue label, finished off with a black mesh layer, a gum outsole, and 24 Kilates embroidered onto the ends of the shoelaces. Are these the next Ronnie Fieg x Asics release? Unfortunately, the answer is no. These Yellow/Black Gel Sagas that Fieg aptly titles the ‘Bumblebees’ are a 1-of-1 made for Ronnie’s pal and KITH NYC figure Adam, so yeah, not even Ronnie has ‘em. It’s just what you’d expect from the mind of Ronnie Fieg, who has mastered the art of the two-hit color combo using the revitalized Asics classics as his canvas as made evident by the recent Rose Gold and Mazarine Blue releases. Sneaker News did however break the news of another upcoming Ronnie Fieg x Asics collaboration – a Navy/Red Asics GT-II – so we’ll keep you up to date on that. In any case, we’ve got a look at these 1-of-1s below so take a look and let us know what you think.

Remember those dope ‘Infrared’ Gel Sagas we showed you on Wednesday? Bad news is, Asics won’t be bringing them out until the second half of this year. But so that we might sooth the pain of this wait, here’s a set of new images from the Asics FW’12 preview at Agenda, including a bunch of other classic runners set to start releasing in about six months. Joining those Gel Sagas is the workhorse Asics Gel-Lyte III itself coming in an orange-accented early ’90s kind of look, as well as another that goes the high contrast route with grape-y accents on a black base. Last but not least is a GT-II that uses those same contrast hits on a white and grey base for a much different end result, and you can see images of all four pairs in more images below. Expect these sometime before the end of 2012 and check back with Sneaker News to know exactly when. via HB

The Asics Gel Saga enjoyed a particularly strong second half of 2011 thanks to bookending the final four months with OG colorways followed by two high profile collaborative efforts. Moving into the new year, this is one of those classics that’s poised to once again make its mark on the sneaker scene, and with colorways like this bold ‘Infrared’ edition, there’s no doubting this model’s status as a serious contender for sleeper hit of 2012. The combination of suede and mesh on these is an instant throwback to the days before synthetics took over the running circuit, and with a colorway that will remind most of a certain 1990-born monster hit, they further the golden era vibe to help take some of the strain off of the workhorse Gel-Lyte III’s back. Usually when Dutch boutique Patta teams up with your favorite footwear brand for a collaborative sneaker, the results aren’t exactly easy to get your hands on. Their latest drop, an Amsterdam-inspired colorway of the Asics Gel Saga will be especially elusive for our stateside readers, as it’s looking like a Euro-only drop up to this point. Following the recent release in their flagship store, these will be finding their way to other top notch retailers across the continent pretty soon. While US sneakerheads were going stark raving mad over the Air Jordan XI Retro ‘Concord’ release this past week, the Euro scene shifted its attention to Amsterdam where the boutique that topped many best-of 2010 lists issued their latest collaboration with a brand whose recent resurgence they can be seen to have sparked a couple years back. The Patta x Asics Gel Saga release represented the rise of both of these brands’ status to cult heroes within certain corners of the sneaker scene, with a large yet peaceful queue starting some two days before the December 22nd drop and building up to an instant sellout that also included some dual-branded winter gloves for the lucky ones in attendance.
