Remember those dope ‘Infrared’ Gel Sagas we showed you on Wednesday? Bad news is, Asics won’t be bringing them out until the second half of this year. But so that we might sooth the pain of this wait, here’s a set of new images from the Asics FW’12 preview at Agenda, including a bunch of other classic runners set to start releasing in about six months. Joining those Gel Sagas is the workhorse Asics Gel-Lyte III itself coming in an orange-accented early ’90s kind of look, as well as another that goes the high contrast route with grape-y accents on a black base. Last but not least is a GT-II that uses those same contrast hits on a white and grey base for a much different end result, and you can see images of all four pairs in more images below. It was all the way back in March of 2010, way before Ronnie Fieg x Asics mania hit classic running fans around the world, that we got our first glimpse at the ‘Salmon Toe’ Gel Lyte III. Ronnie had kept those as a remnant of his days at David Z, then held them under wraps for another 18 months before word hit about their release at Fieg’s new Kith retail spot, but the inspiration arguably came even further back when Asics did up a ‘Salmon & Butter’ pack of GT IIs created for summer 2009′s Bread & Butter Berlin tradeshow. So while this new pair of Asics GT IIs held by noted celebrity sneakerhead Theophilus London might remind you of RF’s design, they’re actually a bit closer to that older Omega 3-rich design. The BBB ‘Salmon’ GT II was a friends & family release and Fieg’s hit a year and a half after their first tease; could we expect a similar timeline on this newest revelation? It’s official: no sneakerhead under the sun has a pass to sleep on Asics anymore. Yeah, we know you’re salty because you keep missing out on the Ronnie Fieg super exclusives, but if you paid attention to the ‘Infra-Cement’ Gel Lyte III’s we showed you yesterday then you know that there’s plenty more fish in the sea. Here’s two more for you, the latest colorways to pop up for the Asics GT-II boasting the classic nylon look. There’s the black/gold pair that’s markedly less loud than atmos’ take on the same motif earlier this year, and a buttery blue and white with some red thrown into the side stripes for an extra pop. Overshadowed in the last two decades by its Gel Lyte III successor, the Asics GT-II has returned to prominence in recent months on the strength of a few standout collaborative designs. Proof that the Onitsuka Tiger still has what it takes to pump out quality colorways is pictured above, a classically simple two-toned upper riding a white sole. From a distance, these appear to be your standard Michigan-leaning navy and gold release, but a closer look reveals the accents to actually be a lime green shade, leading this pair to a surprisingly fresh result that’s still quite versatile. As anyone who’s ever tried a long distance run on a cold day could tell you, the key to surviving is at least half in perpetual movement. You can’t freeze to death if you don’t stand still, so Asics is doing the logical thing and continuing to pump out new colorways of its classics just in time for the shorter days. Three new Asics Gel Lyte IIIs are on the way, including the French flag-leaning red, white and blue joints we showed you last week, along with a dope tonal red and white take on the GT-II. Maybe Ronnie Fieg should shift the letters around in his last name and call himself ‘Fire’, because that’s what he creates every single time he collaborates with Asics. Following in the super-premium footsteps of models like the ‘Super Red’ and ‘The Cove’ Gel Lyte IIIs, Fieg is trying another classic model, the Ronnie Fieg x Asics GT-II ‘Ultra Marine’. Crafted in a lush blue pigskin suede, these GTIIs add aqua stripes to their side panels almost like waves atop the ocean surface, a can’t-miss look for summer that’ll be available in sizes 5-13 starting this Friday, June 3rd at DavidZ’s New York flagship as well as their online store.
