Air Jordan V ‘Red Tails’

February 25th, 2012 by | 22 comments

air jordan v red tails 3 Air Jordan V Red Tails

Earlier this week, Nike held a Black History Month event in Portland where a few rare sneaker and art gems were auctioned off for a good cause. From the initial pics that have leaked, it’s looking like the pick of the litter was a special never before seen Air Jordan V sample. We’re all familiar with the Air Jordan V’s original fighter plane inspiration, but this 1 of 1 edition takes an appropriate BHM spin on the concept by paying tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen and specifically the “Red Tail Angels”, who’s story was detailed in the recent George Lucas film. The Red Tails were a daring escort unit back in World War II who got their name from the red paint that covered the tail end of their silver planes.

As you can see, Jordan Brand has paid homage by translating the idea into sneaker form with this Air Jordan V, featuring a silver upper and midsole with only the rear heel panel showing off a vibrant splash of red. A tonal RT-A logo is stitched into the heel with a gold Jumpman on the tongue and an ice outsole beneath offering nice some additional touches. No word on the “Red Tail” SFB Boot seen behind it in these pics, but according to NarcelX who snapped this pic, the Air Jordan V’s went for $5,000 at the auction and are the only pair in existence, so who knows if we’ll ever get another look. For now, you can check them out here, and we’ll be sure to keep you posted if more images surface.

Nike ‘Black History Month 2012′ – Officially Unveiled

February 2nd, 2012 by | 28 comments

nike black history month 2012 officially unveiled 1 Nike Black History Month 2012 Officially Unveiled

Now that Nike has officially pulled back the curtain on the entirety of their silhouettes in celebration of Black History Month for 2012, we get a little bit of background on the graphic prints that run throughout all the sneakers included in the celebration. Apparently designed with three particular athletic squads in mind (the 1996 USA Basketball Women’s team, the 2002 Brazil Men’s Soccer team, and the 2008 Kenyan Long-Distance Running team), the pattern is meant to be a colorful cross between the beads of Kenya, Brazil’s bright Carnivale holiday, and the tradition of African-American quilt making from the US South. And of course along with the updated info we’re treated to some high quality images of the shoes and apparel, a set which should leave you convinced of just how nice this pack is shaping up to be. Follow us after the jump for the shots of the collection which includes models from the Nike Sportswear and Nike Basketball divisions(all of which will be available at Nikestore online), and let us know which among them you’ll be copping on the February 11th release date.

Nike Air Force 1 Low ‘Black History Month 2012′

February 2nd, 2012 by | 20 comments

nike air force 1 low black history month 2012 11 Nike Air Force 1 Low Black History Month 2012

Given the timing involved, there’s absolutely no way this shoe wasn’t going to exist.  We’re talking about the model that’s proven to be Nike’s annual Black History Month collection anchor, and one that’s celebrating its thirtieth anniversary with some of the simplest colorways we’ve seen in years.  But the Nike Air Force 1 Low ‘BHM’ is anything but simple, even with a relatively conservative blend of grey and brown suedes plus a black Swoosh.  But that last feature is affixed with a zig-zagging stitch, the kind of angular look that’s echoed on the laces, which in turn lends its high-energy palette to a different pattern on the sockliner.  These same patterns are in play on the Zoom Kobe VII, LeBron 9 and Zoom KD IV, while the other three Nike Sportswear drops go for different color schemes.  Which ones turned out best?  Click through for a better look at the 2012 Black History Month Air Force 1s and look for them at retailers like Rock City Kicks along with the other BHM ’12 drops on Saturday, February 11th.

Nike Zoom Kobe VII ‘Black History Month’ – New Images

nike zoom kobe vii black history month new images 1 Nike Zoom Kobe VII Black History Month New Images

From one black Kobe 7 with prominent accent colors to another where the off shades steal the show, we continue our morning full of the Black Mamba’s latest signature with a colorway that’ll be hitting retailers most likely before any of the others we’ve already previewed.  The Nike Zoom Kobe VII ‘BHM’ celebrates Black History Month 2012 with a black/grey tonal build highlighted by a multicolor faux-woven print that offers a nice burst of energy when compared to the more somber black and gold collection from last year.  We expect each of Nike Basketball’s big three in select stores like Rock City Kicks in their BHM garb next Saturday, February 11th, and you can see more images of these after the jump in the mean time.

Nike LeBron 9 ‘Black History Month’

nike lebron 9 black history month 1 Nike LeBron 9 Black History Month

Today marks the start of Black History Month 2012, and following yesterday’s first look at the Zoom Kobe VII, let’s take a gander at the Nike LeBron 9 in its ‘BHM’ colorway.  We knew from the relatively blurry catalog images that surfaced about two weeks ago that all three of Nike Basketball’s big three signature models would come in tonal grey with a red-dominant pattern on the trim.  These ‘Black History Month’ LeBron 9s feature the same printed sockliners as the Kobe 7s, but the ZKVII’s uppers remain considerably more complex as compared to the LeBron’s two-tone build.  Click through to see more and stick with Sneaker News for the BHM LeBron 9 release date.  via Draw Away the Fat
