Blake Griffin as Mars Blackmon for Jordan Cameron Viral Campaign

Has the acting bug bitten Blake Griffin? Blake’s somewhat quiet demeanor is constantly belied by his on-court theatrics and earth-shattering dunks, and after witnessing his versatile performances during the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend, it’s clear that Blake loves to put on a show. His most recent acting gig was actually to help out the draft stock of his friend Jordan Cameron, star Tight End for the USC Trojans and 2011 NFL Draft top prospect; in this viral campaign, Blake shed his Clippers uniform for one Mars Blackmon (or ‘Blake’mon) and revisited the classic Air Jordan commercial that featured Spike Lee and Michael Jordan. While neither Nike nor Jordan Brand had anything at all to do with this mini-project, Sneaker News readers stirred up quite a debate regarding Blake possibly being the next Nike or Jordan Brand signature athlete. However, this was more along the lines of playful theatrics than marketing, but it would be interesting to see Blake have his own signature shoe with the Swoosh or Jumpman. Check out the full video below and let us know what you think.

nba feet 3 4 3 6 summary NBA Feet: Weekend Recap 3/4 3/6

The first set of weekend games in the NBA for the month of March just wrapped up last night, so here’s a great recap of what seen on court. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade of El Heat wore the LeBron 8 V/2 and Air Jordan 2011, respectively, during a string of two tough losses to the league’s top teams. Gilbert Arenas, who has been heating it up for Orlando, wore the Air Jordan XI IE Low. Other Retro Jordan sightings featured the Rockets’ Courtney Lee in the Air Jordan III CDP and the Raptors’ Amir Johnson in the Playoff XIII. Blake Griffin, the biggest star in LA not named Kobe, debuted the Nike Hyperdunk 2011 in a red, blue, and white PE colorway (is Blake the unofficial posterboy for the upcoming Hyperdunk 2011 release?). Other notables included Andray Blatche’s Zoom Huarache TR Mid, the Nike Hyperdunk 2010 ‘UK’ worn by the Nets and Raptors during their games overseas, and J.R. Smith’s Zoom Kobe VI iD. Especially since his breakout performance at the 2011 NBA All-Star, there’s been a bunch of buzz surrounding Los Angeles Clippers rookie forward Blake Griffin.  Many assume it’s only a matter of time before Blake gets his own signature sneaker and we’ve seen a few Nike Air Max Fly By PEs since then, but is it possible he could end up rocking the Jumpman?  Check out these photos of ‘Blakeman’ doing his best Spike Lee impersonation and reminding us of another young dunk contest champion who went on to rewrite all the rules.  Griffin was joined by the soon-to-be-drafted USC TE Jordan Cameron for a Nike photo shoot in LA and while video is sure to be coming along soon, click through to see Blake Griffin as Mars Blackmon and let us know if he’d be a good fit with Jordan Brand.

NBA Feet: Kicks From Around The League – 2/23/11

February 24th, 2011 by | 4 comments

nba feet 2 23 11 summary NBA Feet: Kicks From Around The League – 2/23/11

With the second half of the NBA Season now in full swing and the trade deadline approaching, teams on the cusp of contention are turning it up and doing what they can to jump up another level. Just ask the New York Knicks, who just completed a trade for Carmelo Anthony. With their new superstar in the line-up, the Knicks won their first game with Melo hitting a few key shots down the wire. No Knicks PE yet, but Melo wore the White/Obsidian Melo M7 to closely match the Knicks’ Royal and Orange. Earlier today, Sneaker News showed you Amir Johnson’s Air Jordan XII and Gilbert Arenas’ Air Jordan IX, but there were plenty of other notable kicks, like Kobe Bryant’s Nike Zoom Kobe VI PE in purple/white. Joe Johnson wore the Air Jordan Icons for the second game in a row, while John Wall gave his Reebok Question Mid a repeat as well. There’s still a lot more to see so check out the rest of the NBA action after the jump! via ESPN.

Blake Griffin Visits Nike Vault During All-Star Weekend

nike air max fly by black griffin dunk contest pe 01 Blake Griffin Visits Nike Vault During All Star Weekend

While not on the level of the Kobes, LeBrons, and Wades just yet, Blake Griffin is without a doubt the hottest topic in the NBA right now. The guy’s been dunking over anything with a pulse and doing so with an unsettling ease that leaves you wondering if he’s got what it takes to take over the NBA a few years down the line. He’s not only playing with style, but also with purpose; the Clippers, while still a sub-.500 team, have us paying attention about the other Los Angeles team for the first time in a long while, and with a young and talented roster in a suddenly thinning Western Conference list of superstars, it’s Blake Griffin’s NBA to lose.

Over the All-Star Weekend, Blake Griffin visited the Nike Vault in the Staples Center to talk with fans about his latest achievement, which was winning the 2011 NBA Dunk Contest while jumping over a Kia Optima, catching an off-the-backboard pass from Baron Davis who peered his head out of the sunroof like a groundhog. During the visit, Blake brought his Dunk Contest kicks – the Nike Air Max Fly By in an earth-shattering red and black colorway with a translucent outsole and a seismic graphic on the heel. These are similar to the Nike Hyperdunk 2011 that Blake debuted in the All-Star Game as well. Continue reading for a nice recap of Blake’s visit to Nike Vault and let us know, do you think Blake deserves a signature shoe, or is Nike B-Ball a bit crowded with Kobe, LeBron, and KD? via hoopchina.

Nike Air Max Fly By – Blake Griffin Away PE

February 23rd, 2011 by | 2 comments

BlakeGriffin Blake Crop1 570x319 Nike Air Max Fly By – Blake Griffin Away PE

In the span of a few short hours Saturday night, Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin crossed over from being ‘just’ a strong favorite for Rookie of the Year to an unforgettable sensation with his performance in the dunk contest.  Even if the Clippers’ curse once again wreaks havoc on his knees, we’ll always remember Blake jamming over the surprisingly sleek Kia from which teammate Baron Davis lobbed the perfect oop.  We had expected to see him wear the Hyperdunk 2011 PE that he ended up rocking during the 2011 NBA All-Star Game, but instead, the Blakequake found its epicenter in a pair of Nike Air Max Fly By PEs.  These have been Griffin’s go-to kicks so far this year, and while a signature sneaker can’t be too far off, we’d still love to see these (and his HD2011s) hit retail.  No word on when or if that’ll happen, so click through to see more of Blake Griffin’s Air Max Fly By and let us know which of his Nike Basketball player exclusives you like best.

Nike Hyperdunk 2011 – Blake Griffin “10.0″ Slam Dunk Contest PE

February 20th, 2011 by | 83 comments

nike hyperdunk 2011 unworn 10.0 slam dunk contest PE Nike Hyperdunk 2011 Blake Griffin 10.0 Slam Dunk Contest PE

To the surprise of not many, Blake Griffin won the 2011 Slam Dunk Contest earlier tonight, and pretty much had it all wrapped up before they even rolled out the choir and the KIA for good measure. What was a bit of a shock though, was that while final round competitor, Javale McGee, was breaking out a new shoe for every dunk, Blake remained in a red/black Nike Air Max Fly By throughout – not the Hyperdunk 2011 PE that he was expected to debut for the Slam Dunk festivities. Playing up the “10.0″ earthquake concept which ties into the perfect 10 dunk score, Nike had an eye-catching glow in the dark red/grey/black PE version of the still unreleased Hyperdunk 2011 all ready for Griffin to show off tonight, but for some reason, the shoes never saw the floor.

That didn’t stop Blake from taking home the trophy, but man, would these have looked nice on his feet doing it. They might not have had their spotlight during All-Star Saturday Night, but you can check out what could have been after the jump, and we’ll let you know if there’s any word why they went unworn in the contest. For now, let’s cross our fingers that maybe they find their way onto the court tomorrow night during the third and final leg of the 2011 NBA All-Star Blake Griffin Weekend.
