The nation’s capitol was home to not one, but two great sneaker events in 2011 as Sneaker Con started things off by blowing the roof off with its weekend-long event, followed by Sneaker Pimps latest stop of its 2011 tour. It was another great showing of kicks and hip-hop performances, as Bun B and Stalley provided live music for the event-goers, who attended the event to swap kicks and admire some of best collections in the world. Bun B is well-established in two realms of urban culture, being a well-recognized name in the hip-hop game as well as in the sneaker sub-culture (he’s a member of the ATF crew). Bun B was chosen to host a number of events during the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend, participating in Jordan Brand events like hosting a Q&A session with athletes Chris Paul and Ray Allen as well as the Jordan Brand Takeover @ Footaction in Culver City. One of the highlights of the event was the showcase of the Dave White x Air Jordan 1; the sneaker, designed by world-renown artist Dave White, was limited to just 23 pairs, with all auction proceeds going to the Jordan Brand WINGS For The Future. We now have visual confirmation that Bun B is proud owner of one of twenty-three pairs (unless an extra pair was given to him), as he wore the kicks during a live performance at Sneaker Pimps DC, which went down this past weekend. Jordan Brand athlete Chris Paul joined Bun B for a nice Q&A and fan meet-and-greet session during the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend at Footaction in Culver City. The retail spot, which was transformed into a complete Jordan Brand experience and exhibit, was the epicenter for many Jordan-related events, and for this particular occasion, the starting point guard for the New Orleans Hornets and Western Conference All-Star Team was on hand to answer questions and spend time with his fans. Sneaker News gave you a look at the Jordan Brand Takeover of Footaction in Culver City, but here’s another look at what was on display; Jordan items from wall-to-wall, with a gorgeous display of the Air Jordan 2011 and other Jordan items like the Jordan Brand x G-Shock and Jordan Brand x Kayo skate decks. Chris Paul, who has four signature shoes with the Jumpman label, was wearing the Air Jordan 60+ in Black/Varsity Red-White while Bun B was wearing the Playoff XIII. The NBA All-Star Weekend is one of the biggest pro-sports draws of the year, and over the weekend, Houston-native and hip-hop artist Bun B as well as sneakerhead supreme Mayor were spotted enjoying the festivities. Bun B acted as host for some Q&A sessions with Jordan Brand athletes Ray Allen and Joe Johnson while wearing the Air Jordan XIII ‘Playoffs’ – a shoe that is set to release next week. Mayor, who graciously loaned some of his Nike Air Force 1 collection to the Nike Sportswear ‘Los Fearless’ Event, really heated things up by wearing the UNDFTD x Air Jordan IV – the olive-green uppered, orange laced rare Jordan gems that only a few get to be proud owners of. Last November, CNBC delved into the world of sneakers and the insane prices of sneakers, and the UNDFTD x Air Jordan IV just so happened to be one of the shoes in the spotlight, and it’s no surprise that one of the owners is also one of the biggest sneakerheads in the world. The newest signees to Eminem’s Shady Records, Slaughterhouse, consisting of Royce Da 5’9, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, and Crooked I, performed at the Highline Ballroom in New York in front of a sold out crowd a few nights back, and even brought out special guests DJ Premier, Lloyd Banks, Bun B, and more. Joe Budden, came out wearing a wife beater, grey sweats, New Era fitted cap, and a pair of “Concord” Air Jordan XI’s that are most likely from the 2006 Defining Moments Package. The rest of the group’s kick game was a bit harder to spot, but special guest Bun B, a known sneakerhead and member of the ATF crew, was spotted wearing a pair of the recently released “British Tan” Nike Air Force 1 Duckboot. The H-Town Sneaker Summit Winter ’11 wrapped up this past Sunday to a massive crowd of sneakerheads, but it was also a major treat for audiophiles and sports fanatics alike. Houston’s biggest celebrity sneakerhead Bun B was in the building, as were The Cool Kids for a meet-and-greet as well as a live performance. If that wasn’t enough of a draw, NBA legend and former Houston Rockets superstar Hakeem Olajuwon graced the event-goers with an appearance, as did Arian Foster of the Houston Texans. The H-Town Sneaker Summit was an event for all ages, with an open bar and lounge available for the age-appropriate sneakerheads. The last time we saw Bun B, he was proudly sporting a pair of Cadillacs on his feet, as he was appointed spokesperson for the automotive brand’s footwear endeavor. More recently, Bun B brought out some ‘recognizable’ attire – particularly Nikes – for a September 1st videoshoot for “Cameo Stars“. Starting out with his outfit for the green screen was a pair of grey Nike RT1s, which Bun B matched with a grey Nike Sportswear cardigan and a Commonwealth fitted cap. He later showed off his complete arsenal behind the scenes – like a collection of Nikes that included the Jordan Flight 45 High, Nike Aina Chukka, Air Max 1 Omega, and a rarely-seen Lupe Fiasco x Nike Air Force 1 ‘Fall of Rome’ in the white colorway. Bun’s collection of accessories/jewelry wasn’t too shabby as well; a personal iced-out chain, some Good Wood pieces, G-shocks, and other timepieces were ready for disposal.
