team usa 2012 media day Team USA Basketball Media Day

Team USA Basketball is nearing the end of Training Camp in Las Vegas, as the final roster of 12 works out the last few kinks before moving forward to the World Basketball Festival later this week. Along with a practice session, the NBA stars took time to take some official Media Day photos, where LeBron James and Kobe Bryant stood proudly wearing the Team USA ‘Away’ uniforms. Some of Team USA members are teammates in real life, like the Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony and the league’s Defensive Player of the Year in Tyson Chandler as well as the OKC Thunder trio of KD, Westbrook, and Harden. More of the official media day photos as well as a nice recap of their practice below, so take a look and keep in tune to Sneaker News for more Team USA coverage!

melo m9 new images 1 Jordan Melo M9 – New Images

We’d seen it briefly as a part of the wider Jordan Brand spring 2013 preview earlier this morning on Sneaker News and now it’s time to take a closer look at Carmelo Anthony’s innovative new signature design.  The Jordan Melo M9 breaks all the rules we’ve come to know about how Flywire integrates into basketball sneaker designs, turning these stabilizing cables from mere ribs in a TPU shell to integral elements in a lacing lockdown system unlike any other.  In the image above, we see how the heel diamond resembles the Air Jordan 2013 teaser’s carbon fiber curves and can’t help but wonder if this means we should expect something similar from the Jordan Fly Wade 3 as JB’s top flight models converge on this foundational area.  Click through to see these and more details like the unique visible Air cushion and textures midsole tooling, let us know where these rank against Carmelo’s best and stick with Sneaker News for the Jordan Melo M9 release dates.  Photos: hupu

Carmelo Anthony proved during the New York Knicks’ first playoff appearance in thirteen years that even when his teammates are blowing out knees and busting up fire safety equipment, he’s potent enough a scorer to singlehandedly beat the Eastern Conference’s very best.  Carmelo will return to Madison Square Garden looking to continue making progress with the Knicks’ return to prominence and the Jordan Melo M9 will be along for the entire ride.  We have here today eight upcoming colorways to show you, ranging from the NYK style we’ve seen to a variety of other basketball standbys, along with a unique green and yellow-accented blue edition that looks like it could be a preview of next year’s Easter efforts.  Check out all of them after the jump below, let us know which looks best and stick with Sneaker News for updates including the Jordan Melo M9 release date.  Photos: TSG

Carmelo Anthony‘s got some free time until USA Basketball events begin just a week after the NBA Finals finish up, so yesterday, the Knicks superstar participated in Jeep’s “Power By Design” event that was held in the Flatiron district of Manhattan. Wearing the Air Jordan IV “Military” and some some Jordan Brand gear, Melo hung around with former Knicks great Allan Houston to shoot some hoops and interact with the crowd, rewarding one lucky recipient a trip to Las Vegas in July to watch one of USAB’s Exhibition games. We’ve got a few more shots of Melo wearing this Saturday’s Air Jordan IV ‘Military’, so peep the images below and let us know if you think Melo should rock Air Jordan Retros during his games!

Jordan Melo M9 “Knicks”

jordan melo m9 knicks 2 Jordan Melo M9 Knicks

Are the Knicks one step closer? After reaching the NBA Playoffs for the first time in what seemed to be…ages, the Knicks had high hopes for the 2011-2012 NBA campaign, with Finals-chatter even coming in and out of the discussion of the Knicks’ future. After a rocky start, unfortuante injuries, Linsanity, and a firing of a coach later, the Knicks returned to the Playoffs for the second straight season, managing just one win against the Miami Heat. There are still a few loose ends that need to be tied this offseason, but with a Woodson’s Melo-centric offense, a team rejuvenated on defense thanks to DPOY Tyson Chandler, and perhaps a healthy Jeremy Lin, the expectations for Carmelo and the gotham city crew are still very high going into the 2012-2013 season. This aerial shot of the Jordan Melo M9 shows that much of the Melo M8 body will be carried over, but a redesigned midsole and exposed Flywire straps on the upper should make for an even smoother ride (for those who haven’t tried, the M8 was ridiculously comfortable). Your thoughts on the Knicks’ offseason approach in retaining Lin and getting in on the Dwight Howard trade talks? Give us your opinions and we’ll keep you updated when more of Melo’s next shoe surfaces. Photos: kumastock

Jordan Melo M9

It’s somewhat difficult to define because there’s never been a series quite like this, but anyone who’s considered themselves a sneakerhead long enough to have seen the entirety of Carmelo Anthony’s Jordan Brand signature series knows that Melos have a distinct aesthetic feel that’s marked the entire eight-shoe run.  The Melo M8 followed up on the Flywire introduced on the M7 Advance that had only been hinted at by the M7′s columnar build, and now that lightweight tech stretches beyond performance into personalization.  It’s not shaped identically to the logo on the tongue, but there’s no mistaking the zig-zag of Flywire strapping for anything but an ‘M’ on the newly unveiled Jordan Melo M9, a shoe whose newly exteriorized side panel reinforcements not only integrate perfectly with the lacing system, but also accentuate the kinds of high-contrast colorways that are given when you play for the New York Knicks.  Have a better look at these after the jump below and let us know how they compare to Carmelo’s other Jordans, as well as other ‘bare’ Flywire designs like the original LeBron 9 Elite samples and the upcoming Lunar Hyperdunk 2012.  Photos: truthao

NBA Feet: Around The 2012 Playoffs – 5/9 – 5/10

nba feet 5 11 12 NBA Feet: Around The 2012 Playoffs 5/9 5/10

The First Round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs is nearing its end, with two match-ups waiting for a decisive Game 7 to be determined. Kobe and the Lakers failed to close out their showdown with the Nuggets thanks to Ty Lawson’s career game (balling in the Nike LeBron 9 ‘Cool Grey’). The other LA team is still stuck in First Round limbo, as the Grizzlies staved off elimination with a key Game 5 victory. But six of the eight Second Round teams have already been established – one of them being the Miami Heat, who finally extinguished the battered Knicks in Game 5. To round out the headlines from the last two nights: The Sixers ‘upset’ the Rose-less Bulls, Tracy McGrady still hasn’t seen the Second Round, and Blake Griffin’s Hyperdunk Elites go under the microscope. Check out the highlights of the NBA from the last two nights and stay tuned for more 2012 NBA Playoffs coverage. Photos: espn

nba feet 5 7 12 NBA Feet: Weekend Recap 5/4 5/6

The NBA Playoffs continued over the past weekend, as we got a look a select number of new sneakers as the teams shifted ‘Home’ and ‘Away’. Starting off, Kobe Bryant wore a PE Black/Yellow colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite (not far off from the Gold), as he led the Lakers to a 3-1 lead over the Nuggets. The Lakers’ local counterparts also featured some new sneakers, like CP3′s ‘Home’ colorway of the Playoffs joints and Eric Bledsoe’s LeBron 9 ‘Christmas’. Out East, Carmelo pulled out NY’s first Playoff win in years in a White/Orange/Grey PE of the Jordan Melo M8, while Rajon Rondo led the Celtics to a 3-1 advantage over the Hawks while wearing the Nike Zoom Huarache 2k4 in a White/Green PE (Rondo once mentioned that the 2k4 was the most comfortable basketball shoe he ever wore). More of NBA Feet below, so take a look and stay tuned for more updates! Photos: espn
