The First Round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs is nearing its end, with two match-ups waiting for a decisive Game 7 to be determined. Kobe and the Lakers failed to close out their showdown with the Nuggets thanks to Ty Lawson’s career game (balling in the Nike LeBron 9 ‘Cool Grey’). The other LA team is still stuck in First Round limbo, as the Grizzlies staved off elimination with a key Game 5 victory. But six of the eight Second Round teams have already been established – one of them being the Miami Heat, who finally extinguished the battered Knicks in Game 5. To round out the headlines from the last two nights: The Sixers ‘upset’ the Rose-less Bulls, Tracy McGrady still hasn’t seen the Second Round, and Blake Griffin’s Hyperdunk Elites go under the microscope. The NBA Playoffs continued over the past weekend, as we got a look a select number of new sneakers as the teams shifted ‘Home’ and ‘Away’. Starting off, Kobe Bryant wore a PE Black/Yellow colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite (not far off from the Gold), as he led the Lakers to a 3-1 lead over the Nuggets. The Lakers’ local counterparts also featured some new sneakers, like CP3′s ‘Home’ colorway of the Playoffs joints and Eric Bledsoe’s LeBron 9 ‘Christmas’. Out East, Carmelo pulled out NY’s first Playoff win in years in a White/Orange/Grey PE of the Jordan Melo M8, while Rajon Rondo led the Celtics to a 3-1 advantage over the Hawks while wearing the Nike Zoom Huarache 2k4 in a White/Green PE (Rondo once mentioned that the 2k4 was the most comfortable basketball shoe he ever wore). Looks like Knicks are back to square one, but the silver lining of Amare’s freak injury and Jeremy Lin’s healing knee is that Carmelo played his absolute best (perhaps the best of his career) with the two starters sitting on the bench. The series now shifts back to New York, and although this particular chapter of the Heat vs. Knicks saga has been the least action-packed, we expect Carmelo, the probably DPOY in Tyson, and the most raucous crowd in the NBA to lift the Knicks into contention and perhaps pull out at least one win during Games 3 and 4. Melo will likely revert to the Anthracite/Blue colorway of his Melo M8, but once the Playoffs are done, you’ll get the opportunity to cop this sick Gym Red/Black-White colorway, which features a daring patent leather red upper with a slick trim of elephant print along the collar of the shoe. The Jordan Brand Big Three spent a few extra days off this week to rest for the big stage, currently scheduled to kick off tomorrow. Out West, Chris Paul will lead Lob City against the tough Memphis Grizzlies squad wearing two PE colorways of the Jordan CP3.V, which shuffles around the Clippers’ crest of White, Red, and Varsity Royal. In the East, Melo and Wade will meet in a collision down in Miami, as the Heat invite the Knicks to their Home Court for Game 1 of their series. Carmelo Anthony will wearing two Playoff colorways of the Jordan Melo M8, while Dwyane Wade will make the official transition to the Jordan Fly Wade 2 EV (with a third ‘Cool Grey’-like colorway also in the mix). With a Playoff spot on the line and the Milwaukee Bucks right on their tails, the New York Knicks are looking at every upcoming game as a ‘must-win’. As of Sunday morning, the Knicks were just one loss away from sharing the number-8 spot, and with the Chicago Bulls coming into town with the league’s reigning MVP making a return, the Knicks were facing their toughest test of the season. Without their star point guard and power forward, the Knicks needed to stand on the shoulders of Carmelo Anthony, who proved yesterday that he is still a giant in the league.
Carmelo carried the Knicks throughout the entire contest, giving the Knicks a second life with the game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation and sealing a win with an over-time go-ahead three-pointer with seconds to spare. As he hit that final shot, Carmelo screamed to the crowd “This is my house”, and after yesterday’s win, the foundation of MSG’s postseason hopes were stronger than it they’ve ever been. For this special Easter Sunday game, Melo rocked out in some blue suede shoes – a sick Player Exclusive of his Jordan Melo M8 that profusely bled Knicks blue and orange. In what was undoubtedly Carmelo’s best game as a Knick, his kicks seemed to match the occasion without fault, so lets hope Melo continues to rock these PEs for the rest of the season, because as the leader of the Garden household, it’s all on him now. The news of the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin hits close to home – for other 17-year-olds, for mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and friends. But the fact that Martin’s killer is yet to be arrested has marked this already tragic event with anger, confusion, and bitterness, spreading worldwide as more than a story of death, but about a flawed legal system that would allow a murderer to walk free (while arresting someone for throwing flour at Kim Kardashian). Trayvon’s story has grasped the attention of a number of notable individuals worldwide, and Dwyane Wade and LeBron James showed their support by writing respectful quotes like “RIP Trayvon Martin” and “We Want Justice” on their sneakers during their Friday-night game against the Pistons.
The entire Miami Heat team also came together for a photo, with each player donning a hoodie – a garment that has become an iconic piece of imagery and a display of support, much like a LIVESTRONG wristband or a pink ribbon. Other NBA stars showed their “hoodie” support as well; Carmelo Anthony and Steve Nash tweeted pictures of themselves while Amare Stoudemire spent the entire pre-game shootaround on Friday – with the hood on – to pay his respects. With Trayvon’s story becoming one of the top headlines in the nation and thousands of supporters voicing their concern through petitions and rallies, we hope a swift act of justice comes soon.

With the Air Jordan XII set for a revival beginning in April, let’s take a look back at some of the rarest Air Jordan XII PEs we’ve ever seen. The Air Jordan XII has been one of the more common PEs around, but when you see them grouped together like these five ‘Home’ white-based pairs, you can’t help but drop your jaw in awe. Spotted at the recent Sneaker Con event in Miami at the SoleFly table was this sick mini-capsule of Air Jordan Player Exclusives – two Ray Allen joints, one for Carmelo Anthony, one for Richard Hamilton, and the last for the retired Michael Finley. All feature the white leather uppers with a secondary color-blocking matching their team uniforms, with the Melo standing out with the partially-white midsole at the forefoot.
