“I’ve always tried to stick to my beliefs and what I feel proud of creating.”

Chad Muska‘s words above explain why his Supra signature line has put forth three of the more unique silhouettes of the past decade. His fourth is no exception to the established tradition, the Supra Skytop IV, as Muska put it, “a perfect representation of the past, present and future.” In combining these influences, we arrive at the Skytop 4 as another standout hightop skate shoe, one of the key releases for Black Friday 2013. Click through to see Muska skating that one-piece concrete halfpipe and let us know if you’re copping the Skytop IV this holiday season.

“I make shoes for people who like to wear something different and unique. If you skate, that’s just a bonus.” – Chad Muska

That quote pretty eloquently sums up what Supra has been all about since they first launched the brand back in 2006. Chad Muska has been along for the ride since day 1, not just by lending his legendary name and feet as an endorser, but also as one of the visionary minds behind some of Supra’s most memorable and successful designs.

Supra Skytop II “Remix” by Steve Aoki & Chad Muska

November 20th, 2012 by | No comments

supra skytop remix by steve aoki and chad muska Supra Skytop II Remix by Steve Aoki & Chad Muska

Chad Muska’s second Supra signature is a classic ‘middle child’ scenario, where the oldest has seen so much more and the youngest is still so cute and fresh that we don’t see all that many new Supra Skytop IIs these days.  But just like Black Friday a couple years back when they released a dope black/gold edition that would have been a very strong 2012 release, the Skytop II is ready for the after-Thanksgiving shopping madness with a new colorway curated by Muska himself along with one of the Crown brand’s noted associates.  The Skytop II ‘Remix’ was designed by Muska and Steve Aoki with Vans-esque checkerboarding on the overlay of an otherwise tonal blue design that reaches upscale with a dope croc texture base that gives this model a whole new appeal.  The Muska and Mr. Dim Mak killed this Cyber Monday release and we have a feeling they’ll move fast at Factory413 and their e-store on Cyber Monday.

Supra has offered respectful nods to Nike in a variety of ways since it was established just a few short years ago, everything from classic Air Jordan design elements to unmistakable classic colorways.  The Supra Skytop III even has the vague appearance of a basketball sneaker design you might have seen in the late ’80s/early ’90s, and these latest two colorways evoke a couple of classics from around the same time period.  One of them is a fairly obvious reference to Marty McFly’s Nike Air Mag from Back to the Future Part II and eBay mega-auction fame, while the other is less direct, though certainly similar in its color combo to the ‘Olive’ Air Jordan IX.  Check em both out after the jump and look for these at select Supra stockists.

Supra Skytop III – Officially Unveiled

supra skytop iii official 13 Supra Skytop III Officially Unveiled

Complex’ look at Chad Muska’s favorite sneakers revealed a ‘secret’ not so well hidden from observant sneakerheads: the man loves his Nikes.  Muska’s list featured more Nikes than any other brand, and more than his éS and Supra signature lines combined.  So when Chad describes the Supra Skytop III as “part tech runner and part basketball shoe, mixed in with the lines of the original Skytop,” it’s not shocking that he’d draw upon the Swoosh’s world-beating legacy.  Its lace synthetic eyelet cage similar to the Air Presto, the Skytop 3 is a bit more organic with upper materials like suede and nubuck, though you can always go totally technical and rock the abrasion-resistant TUF editions.  Click through to see more angles, let us know which colorway is best and look for these right now at select Supra dealers.
