The phrase ‘slimmed-down Barkleys’ doesn’t apply to just the Nike Air Max Barkley, but Charles Barkley himself! The round mound of rebound recently shed 38 lbs. by following the celebrity-endorsed fad diet plan, so it’s quite fitting that the slimmed-down Air Max2 CB ’94 arrives at the same time. Featuring the same infrastructure as the ’94 classic but with lighter, more breathable materials, the Air Max Barkley allows ballers to rock these on the court with an emphasized level of comfort that has been the standard with the super-sleek Hyperdunk/Hyperfuses of today. You can cop this classics PHX Suns colorway right now by heading to Nikestore, but get a better look after the jump.

During his time in the NBA, Sir Charles was a man who demanded attention both and off the court. His forceful style and in-your-face personality made him a superstar, a wave he’s still riding today with his various commentating gigs. Of course also essential to his style was the sneakers, as he locked down a few signatures for himself as one of Nike Basketball’s frontrunners in the 90′s, repping the Swoosh to no end as in the Reebok jacket controversy of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Complex has compiled a gallery of Charles Barkley sneaker shots for your view pleasure, a timeline that starts out with him rocking Converse basketball models before he made the transition to Nike’s Force series and his own signature sneaks like the Nike Air Max CB 34 later on. The tail end of the selection even includes some middle-era Jordan Brand heat, with the Mound Round of Rebound rocking the Air Jordan XIV and the ‘Cool Grey’ Jordan XI. Get a sample of the heat after the jump and hit up Complex for the full feature.

Charles Barkley was the face of the Nike Force during the 90′s, and what a fitting face it was. The foul-mouthed power forward with a penchant for low-post scoring, rebounding, and getting under the skin of oppoents rocked some of the fiercest looking kicks in Nike history, like the Nike Air Max2 CB ’94. It’s due up for a remastering in the form of the Nike Air Max Barkley (a Hyperfuse-uppered version of the CB ’94), but before we reach that point, check out this tonal varsity red colorway; it features rugged rip-stop nylon on the upper, with white contrast stitching along the synthetic leather giving an added level of military-style appeal. These are a House of Hoops exclusive so head there to check ‘em out in person, but do so after you peep the detailed shots after the jump. via LTD-Online.

Available at retailers now is the Nike Air Max CB34 in the all-new Wolf Grey/Varsity Red-White colorway. Charles Barkley is always one to criticize and ridicule things as ‘turrible’ without giving it thought, but even the round mound of rebound can’t deny how sweet this new colorway is. The Nike Barkley signature line does one of the best jobs in inducing nostalgic hunger-pangs, and this classic silhouette paired with a new colorway should appeal to the younger sneakerheads who never got to see Sir Charles rule the court. Sneaker News reported the availability of the Wolf Grey CB34 late last month, so if you haven’t picked them up already, check your local Nike retailer like Extra Butter for your pair, or snag one for a little less on eBay.
