CLOT x Converse First String Pro Leather – Available

clot converse pro lthr hanon 0 CLOT x Converse First String Pro Leather Available

It was only used sparingly during the first few years Nike Inc. owned Converse, but now the Pro Leather has risen to such heights in recent months, it’s even surpassed Nike Sportswear’s iconic Blazer in the second half of this year.  Many new colorways have arrived courtesy of the One Star’s in-house designers in addition to notable collaborations with sneaker/streetwear cornerstones Undefeated, Stussy and Patta, and those First String teamups will continue with at least two as yet unrevealed designs.  In the middle, we have the CLOT x Converse First String Pro Leather in vintage-treated high and lowtop canvas styles, a look that promptly sold out in Hong Kong on the first of the month and is available for what you can expect will be a fairly short while now at Hanon.

CLOT x Converse First String Pro Leather

Much like Reebok’s Classic Leather and the Puma Suede, the Converse Pro Leather is a recognized icon that frequently deviates from the materials you’d expect from its name.  In this particular case, it’s the suede we’ve seen in a variety of pleasing colorways of late, but thanks to CLOT’s eye for vintage good looks, the red/white combinations have been made rustier and have a well-aged vibe about them.  They’ll arrive at Juice’s retail locations and their e-store along with a couple of matching tees following a Thursday, November 1st launch event at the Hong Kong door, continuing the string of Pro Leather First String collaborations that’s included Stussy and Patta (and don’t forget about those Aloha Rag joints), and will later add Bodega and St. Alfred.  Stick with Sneaker News for updates on those and let us know which of the three sets we’ve seen is best so far.

Classics Revisited: CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 (2006)

clot air max 1 2006 kiss of death Classics Revisited: CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 (2006)

Continuing our second examination of the best Air Max 1s as part of our Classics Revisited feature is the 2006 release of the CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 ‘Kiss of Death’. As one of CLOT’s earlier team-ups with Nike, this project was a visualization of ‘East meets West’, as this original ’87 Western-born design met with CLOT and MC Yan’s concept out in Hong Kong. A number of fine details, such as the use of suede, snakeskin, and ostrich skin, was paired with a tribute to a time-honored traditional of Chinese medicinal theory, as seen on the ‘pressure point’ map on the insoles. Using Nike’s latest ‘No Liner’ build of the Nike Air Max 1, CLOT design the shoe using earthy tones and struck a unique note with the transparent toe-box – only the third time a Nike shoe featured the see-through material (first on the ESPO x Air Force II and later in the Air Force 1 Low ‘Invisible Woman’). This May 2006 release was centered around a special CLOT-hosted invite-only party out in Hong Kong; some of the notable partners of that celebration was Nike, Moet Chandon, Motorola, and More of the ‘Kiss of Death’ after the jump, so take a look and let us know where this Air Max 1 ranks for you in your personal list of all-time greats!

Kazuki Kuarishi’s adidas Originals by Originals campaign has slowed to a trickle but the model that’s been arguably his biggest success is just too good not to keep releasing in new colorways.  Pictured above is the third kzkLOT x adidas Originals Superstar 80s, and though these don’t have the same ‘Breathe’ nickname as the original black design, their mesh upper construction means these are every bit the “breathable shoes for the hot days of Hong Kong or nowadays LA,” Edison Chen described back at the project’s nexus in 2010.  Check out this new blue edition, let us know how it compares to the white and black pairs and be ready for these to arrive at Juice on June 22nd with select retailers to follow in July.
