New Balance is probably the sneaker company most commonly associated with New England, but you could convincingly argue that they wouldn’t even exist as a footwear brand were it not for a much more experienced footwear label up in Maine. Converse is the OG of OGs at 104 years old and counting, and with the new Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Made in Maine boot, the One Star celebrates its home base by bringing in the Highland Shoe Company for this rich Horween Leather, Vibram ripple-soled winter masterpiece. Leather board construction means these can be re-soled so the ultra-premium upper will remain viable for generations, but would you wear a $350 boot that’s guaranteed to skyrocket in value given only 80 pairs in circulation? The Made in Maine collection launches this Friday, November 30th at Converse boutiques in Boston and NY along with select First String retailers; is this epic Chuck Taylor boot now near the top of your Christmas wish list?

Soundgarden were one of the pillars of the early ’90s alternative rock movement, bringing an intensity to which most of that era’s slacker-minded grunge devotees could never reach. Perhaps that’s why they’re still around and relevant to this day while the Mudhoneys and Alice in Chains of the world have faded into oblivion (although, there is a little band called Pearl Jam still performing now and again). Soundgarden’s first studio album in almost sixteen years debuts today and unlike back in 1996 when there were six colors of Chucks available at your local retailer, a sneaker collaboration in 2012 is quite common when dealing with major releases or anniversaries. The Soundgarden x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star lowtop utilizes King Animal artwork and the band’s new logo on a monochromatic black style that’s limited to just sixty pairs and available now at Converse Santa Monica.

The immortal Converse Chuck Taylor All Star continues to prove it’s the most versatile silhouette out there today in terms of integrating themes and hybrid concepts, the new Holiday 2012 collection offering everything from the classic hightops to some the likes of which we’ve never seen. We’ll start with the most obvious example of the latter category, the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Beverly Lace Up, whose eye-catching lacing setup looks like it was borrowed from a sample of those legendary giant size 45 Puma Suedes. Everything else is fairly calm by comparison, even the Elsie and Classic Boots with their rugged winter-ready traction, but a few of the kids styles will no doubt turn heads as well. Take a look at what’s in store with more photos below and find yours at select Converse stockists worldwide.

Wooly Chuck Taylors have been a popular choice for Converse during the past few years’ cold weather months, everything from in-house styles to this year’s Missoni, Harris Tweed and New Era collabos. This newest duo of Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Premium hightops is closest to those baseball cap-mimicking styles, with a clean woolen twill adding leather detailing on the medial patch and midsole along with the signature toecap. Bringing the medial ventilation ports down into the foxing for a unique finish, and the subtle interplay of how these metallic elements intermingle with tonal brown and black designs that makes this pack a winner. Have a closer look below and find yours at select Converse retailers around the world.
