The Converse Jack Purcell is making a trip out to Italy, getting remixed by the team at Slam Jam for Summer 2013. More than just a brand new color up for the classic badminton model, the Slam Jam x Converse First String Jack Purcell reworks the design just a bit by adding a red snap button on the side. The shoe was inspired by a “nautical summer journey” that the team took, hence the text extending down the tongue and the durable water-repellant canvas up top. Italy’s Slam Jam teases us with this toe-box shot of its upcoming Converse First String collaboration, using “red smiles and gum laces” as the tag-line for this visual hint. We can certainly expect something simplistic and clean from these fellas, who have proven time and time again that their concepts with sneakers have always been well-received by the sneaker community. The Jack Purcell smiles its way into the floral print party this spring as two new pairs hit the scene with a style you might describe as ‘Hawaiian’. The ‘Floral’ Converse Jack Purcell is rendered in two colorways, both of which mix palm fronds with hibiscus flowers in a style you might expect to see on a flowy casual buttondown. Converse and Marimekko have been in love for nearly two years now, and there’s a variety of new eye-catching patterns on the way for the first half of 2013. Converse has plenty of premium treatments up their sleeves for Spring/Summer of 2013 thanks to the likes of the John Varvatos and Marimekko collaborations sticking around. The JV side of things will continue its vintage, zipper laden look via models like the Converse JV Weapon Mid and the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star. On the more cutesy end of the spectrum are the Marimekko pairs, which rely on rather bright shapes and patterns to set them apart. The Converse Jack Purcell has always been a low-key favorite, but it’s been very quiet in recent months for such a foundational design. Here’s some of the ‘good’ quiet, a couple of classy Jack Purcells crafted in chambray cotton weaves. These blue and white kicks follow up on last spring’s chambray Chuck Taylors and a pair of Purcell LTTs that hit in 2011 with a multicolor layout.
