Converse Basketball hasn’t made much noise (not that it’s made much of an attempt) since perhaps it’s most popular endorsee in decades in Dwyane Wade left the brand for Jordan in 2009. However, a first look at the Converse MVP Mid Flywire has been a bright light for Converse, which relies heavily on their heritage models than on its new designs; first off, the funky Foam-like shell upper brings some unique visuals to the shoe, while the Nike-derived Flywire at the toe reveals that Converse is ready is bring in new technology to its designs. Reported first in Asia, the Converse Flywire is now yours for the taking in five colorways directly from Eastbay.

Who knows – maybe this would’ve been Dwyane Wade’s signature shoe if he chose to prolong his stay on Converse. Of course, that’s now how that cookie crumbled, as he moved on to Jordan Brand, but is there potential for Wade to return once his sneaker free agency becomes official? The Converse MVP Mid wouldn’t be a bad fit for Wade, as it features a stable one-piece foam shell upper with Nike’s Flywire technology at the toe-box, and the shoe is certainly breathable thanks to the multiple cut-out ‘vents’ in the upper. Converse operates independently from Nike for the most part, but it’s not much of a shocker to see some of Nike’s advances trickle down onto its subsidiary brand – much like how Flywire became prevalent in Jordan Brand’s newer models. Here’s a first look at the Converse MVP Mid – the first Converse basketball shoe to feature Nike’s Flywire; the MVP Mid features a molded upper with various cutouts on the upper like the Defcon Mid, with a Flywire-laden toe-box and ‘Flywire’ printed at the base of the laces. Will we see more of Nike’s technology on Converse’s budding basketball label?
