Converse has relied primarily upon its Chuck Taylor and Jack Purcell silhouettes with a variety of other models taking up the rest of the spotlight, but could we be seeing the start of a ‘big three’, along the lines of Nike Sportswear’s Air Force 1-Dunk-Blazer triumvirate? If so, this one gets to take the last spot thanks to its resemblance, the Converse Pro Leather having debuted in 1976, just three years after that first Swoosh basketball releases. Three pairs run in the VNTG Blazer’s path, opting for simple suede+white makeups, while two leather pairs remind us how this sneaker actually got its name. Stussy continues to set the pace of trends and tastes with an amazing collaboration with Converse First String, giving a special shout-out to its crew based out in New York. What we see here is a patchwork of materials and prints (denim, corduroy, American flag, buffalo plaid) with a leather heel-tab with a press-mold Stussy New York Crew label, all built on the classic Converse Pro Leather model. The next stop of the Nike World Basketball Festival was the Converse Block Party at the Banneker Community Center in DC, where Converse arranged a park-wide celebration consisting of live music, food, sport, and all-around good times. Hip-hop stars The Dream and Stalley and up-and-coming artists Tanya Morgan and Fresh Daily of Converse Rubber Tracks performed live for the attentive crowd, while a few others played some ball in the revamped basketball courts arranged by Converse. Those in attendance also got to check out the Converse Pro Leather WBF Pack firsthand (available now) while enjoying the free goodie-bags and t-shirts. The Converse Block Party continues on this Summer at select cities, with Harlem, NYC being the next stop on the agenda! The 2012 World Basketball Festival is going WrestleMania 2 on us with three different cities playing host, and with Kobe and LeBron on board with ‘Fireberry’ pack releases, it’s only right to have another all-time legend fill out this ‘big 3′. We already knew Michael Jordan’s namesake brand would offer a trio of Jordan Super Fly RTTG designs, and now we take another step in a curious direction away from the Air Jordan flagship. Mike first made national headlines in the Converse Pro Leather and now this shoe in which he hit the 1982 NCAA-winning jumper has been done up in three more WBF-inspired colorways, two of which you’ll see in greater detail below. These suede Barcelona and Washington D.C. hightops leave Las Vegas as a curious omission at the relatively nearby Millennium Shoes, but act fast because that only serves to increase the demand for these two.

Converse recently introduced the special edition World Basketball Festival Pack of iconic Pro Leathers to celebrate the Converse Block Party, set to erupt during the World Basketball Festival celebration. Those six colorways were set to represent distinct cities in which the Block Party is located, but Converse is extended the hurrah with the introduction of of the Converse Pro Leather Suede, set for arrival this August 1st. Five colorways of this collection of suede-uppered Pro Leathers in red, navy, green, black, and grey will be available, with each being built on retro-styled white midsoles and Pro Leather branding on the upper. You’ve already seen the myriad models Nike has lined up for the World Basketball Festival, but what about wholly owned subsidiary Converse? Their flag bearer for the events will be the Converse Pro Leather, a high top that’s been in the spotlight quite a bit lately (most notably with the Jordan Brand x Converse project). The pack promises six pairs total, three in premium perforated leather and another three in suede featuring three letter abbreviations running along the side pointing to specific stops along the World Baksetball Festival (London, Washington DC, and Barcelona). In addition to this set Converse will also be promoting the model through a series of block parties this summer going down in Washington D.C., New York City, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. This Friday, June 29th marks the launch of the LunarLon-cushioned Nike Hyperdunk+, and along with the bleeding edge of basketball technology, Nike, Inc. has readied a new collaboration starring the high and lowtop versions of a 1970′s throwback. The other end of the spectrum is represented by the Foot Patrol x Converse Pro Leather pack, a duo of premium nubuck classics whose grey or mint plus black/white Aztec pattern has them squarely in the crux of several key 2012 trends. If they’re good enough for Michael Jordan, the Converse Pro Leather is surely good enough for the average sneakerhead, but good luck trying to get your hands on one of the recent commemorative packages. That those select few aren’t showing any signs of popping up on the retail market proves how desirable they really are, but you don’t have to go lacking in the top-tier Pro Leather Hi department this month thanks to Converse First String. These new pair in Cloud and Cream has a similar old school appeal with its two-tone palette and striped grosgrain ribbons, but despite what their name would suggest, these are actually constructed in an undyed waffle canvas.
