The latest in a long line of DC Comics-inspired Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars comes from Japan in the style of one of the earliest such collaborations. The DC Comics x Converse Japan U.S. Originator releases are among the designs currently posterboy’d by US-born Japanese TV personality Dave Spector. Tinker Hatfield famously holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Oregon, and it’s clear he took his love for design in the right direction. Some people are meant to spend their lives designing buildings, and few did it more impactfully during the 20th century than Brazilian Oscar Niemeyer. Niemeyer (born months before Converse was established) helped to define the look of Brasilia in the 1950s, pushed the envelope when it came to utilizing reinforced concrete and sees his nonlinear approach to design carried over onto a quintet of Converse collaborative releases. Letting the beast out of the cage is the so-called ‘Funimal’ pack pictured above, offering up both leopard print and cow-fur, a pretty rare selection even in the midst of the animal-print craze that we’re experiencing at the moment. Click through with us to check out both and be on the lookout for these at Converse Japan retailers beginning Fall/Winter 2012. Photos: HS

So long as they don’t start popping up on every other shoe, studded kicks do indeed have a ‘hard’ look to them, as evidenced by this new Vanquish x Converse Skidgrip, whose overall sense of rebellious cool is furthered by the tonal black suede and leather combo, the latter of which gets a quilted touch. They also touch on the recent push toward wild animal prints with a leopard insole; are these worth importing from the Vanquish e-store?
